Cory Schneider was beaten for three goals on 30 shots Wednesday as the Devils lost a 4-3 shootout decision to Montreal.
Having started three of New Jersey's past four games, the former Canuck seems to slowly be yanking control of the crease away from Martin Brodeur. His 4-5-4 record for the year seems out of place when compared against his .925 save percentage and 1.81 GAA.

Cory Schneider blocked 15 shots to blank the Sabres in New Jersey's 1-0 overtime win Saturday night.
The shutout is Schneider's second of the season, as he continues his brilliant run, though he wasn't taxed much in this one. Over the past five games, the netminder has given up only five goals. Even though he's only played in 12 games, his play has to be drawing notice from the Team USA brass. He has a 1.72 goals-against average and .927 save percentage this season.

Cory Schneider clarified his previous statements expression his frustration with how little he's played lately.
Schneider, among others things, called it "Groundhog Day" because he's gone from being stuck behind Roberto Luongo to being stuck behind Martin Brodeur. "I'm good," Schneider said on Friday. "I'm back to myself. Sometimes it's just a bad day, bad practice, bad mood and things come out a certain way. But, you know what? I'm fully aware of the situation. I understand it." Schneider will start Friday.

Martin Brodeur's thinks Cory Schneider's frustration over his lack of playing time is "normal."
"Nobody wants to just sit," Brodeur said. "There's guys that (were) here for that at times, but that's not the case with him." Brodeur thinks Schneider will get the nod on Friday after the veteran goaltender allowed four goals on 22 shots in a 4-3 loss to Carolina on Wednesday.

Cory Schneider was "very surprised" to find out that Martin Brodeur is starting over him on Wednesday.
Schneider had hoped to split the goaltending responsibilities with Brodeur this season, but over the past 14 games, Brodeur has started in 10 of them. This is beginning to mirror the situation Schneider had in Vancouver. "It's Groundhog Day for me," Schneider said. "I can't seem to escape it. I'm just trying to work hard and do what I can. I'd just like to see the ice a bit more is all." It's important to keep two things in mind. The first, is that while Brodeur is doing better than expected, Schneider is still clearly doing better than Brodeur in terms of both GAA and save percentage. The second is that Brodeur getting more playing time than Schneider despite Schneider's superior numbers is something that was anticipated. This is Brodeur's team and potentially his final season, so giving the starting job cleanly to Schneider was hoping for too much. That being said, if Brodeur retires over the summer, then Schneider will likely start in more than 60 games in

Cory Schneider is considering playing in Switzerland at the end of his career.
Schneider is of Swiss descent on his father's side and is on the verge of getting a Swiss passport. "My father's side is Swiss. My great grandfather came over from Switzerland and I think there is some rule you can pass citizenship down on the male side," Schneider said. "So my grandfather and dad have it. My brother and I can get our passports." The move would allow Schneider to play for Switzerland in the Olympics but he is still being considered for the American team and Switzerland has good goaltenders in Jonas Hiller and now Reto Berra.
