Cory Schneider has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the New Jersey Devils.

New Jersey won't provide any further details regarding the contract, but it's reportedly a seven-year, $42 million contract. If that's true then it seems like a fair amount for Schneider. He's never had the opportunity to serve as a team's clear cut starter, but he's been a great goaltender for years and that should continue in his expanded role.

New Jersey GM Lou Lamoriello is optimistic that Cory Schneider will sign a contract extension soon.

"It's a work in progress and we're getting closer and closer," Lamoriello said. "Hopefully, we'll have that done in the very near future." Schneider will be the Devils' number one goaltender next season and he is eligible for unrestricted free agency after the 2014-15 campaign.

Cory Schneider is poised to be New Jersey's number one netminder next season.

Martin Brodeur is projected to be playing elsewhere in 2014-15, so Schneider could have the crease to himself. He wants to play in at least 60 games and the Devils may give him that opportunity. New Jersey would also like to get Schneider signed to a long-term deal at some point, as he has one season remaining on his current agreement.

Cory Schneider clarified that he's not making any demands with regards to playing time as a condition for re-signing with New Jersey.

Schneider's agent has already begun to talk to the Devils. "People said I was demanding this or that," Schneider said. "It has nothing to do with that. There have been no demands. I think just personally for me I would like the opportunity to be a starting goalie - however many games that may be, however you define a starting goalie. I would just like that opportunity. I think I've at least earned a look and if they agree then we'll go from there." Schneider only ended up playing in 45 games in 2013-14 because of the presence of Martin Brodeur.

Cory Schneider would like to play 60 games next year.

Martin Brodeur expects to test the open market next month and the Devils have one year remaining on Schneider's contract. If Brodeur does leave then it would free Schneider up to see plenty of action and he believes that will happen. "I have no reason to think otherwise," Schneider said. "We're probably about a month short of figuring out what is going to happen going forward. In five or six weeks I'll have more to say or dissect, but as of today and what I've heard from the team, hopefully I can sort of begin my career as a starter and earn it see what I can do."

If the New Jersey Devils plan to sign Cory Schneider to a long-term contract, then he would like assurances that they view him as their top goalie going forward.

Schneider has one season left on his contract before he's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. Schneider specified that this isn't about whether or not they sign Martin Brodeur for another season as he's more interested in the Devils' long-term goaltending situation.

Cory Schneider thinks Rangers coach Alain Vigneault deserves some credit for guiding New York to the Stanley Cup Final.

Schneider and Vigneault were both members of the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver traded the former and fired the latter. "As a Devil it's not great to see the Rangers playing in the Final, but it's good to see Alain back in the Final. I think he's a great coach," said Schneider. "We went to a Cup Final and we won two President's Trophies and a bunch of division titles with him, so he was clearly a great coach. I'm not surprised at all that they're there. It was unfortunate the way it ended in Vancouver for him. I don't think it was a knock on him as a coach. I just think it was a change with the ownership." The Rangers are down 1-0 in their series against Los Angeles, but they took the opener to overtime.

Cory Schneider was sharp in goal for the Devils Thursday, but suffered a loss in a 2-1 shootout decision against Ottawa.

The lack of offensive support for Schneider is bordering on ridiculous, as no netminder deserves a loss after turning aside 31 of 32 shots. His record is now a mediocre 16-15-12 despite a 1.98 GAA and a .920 save percentage.
