Vaclav Prospal is back in Columbus because of the European break, but he'll return to the Czech Republic on Saturday. He told Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch that he misses his family, but he felt he had to continue playing to keep himself better prepared. "The guys who are playing -- wherever they're playing, they're playing -- are going to have a big advantage if we get back to playing," he said. Prospal has two assists in two games with Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Extraliga.

Vaclav Prospal has signed with Ceske Budejovice of the Czech Extraliga. Prospal actually suited up with the team on Sunday and picked up an assist in a 5-2 win over Pardubice. He will play with Milan Michalek and Martin Hanzal while overseas. Prospal is a valued veteran with the Blue Jackets and managed 17 goals and 55 points with the struggling team in 2011-12 at the age of 37. His stats will likely go down when he returns to the NHL as he will no longer play alongside Rick Nash.

This will be the third lockout that Vaclav Prospal has gone through as a player in the NHL. He was playing his first pro season in North America during the first lockout of players, in 1994-95, and he was a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning during the lockout that canceled the entire 2004-05 campaign. "When I think about it, it actually makes me angry," said the 37-year-old winger. "Those are the seasons that you're never going to get back." He isn't sure about playing overseas because he wants to be close to his family and he knows that his days in the NHL may be numbered, so he could have some tough decisions to make if the lockout drags on.

It will be very hard for veteran forward Vaclav Prospal to generate enough offense to keep the Blue Jackets afloat in 2012-13. With Rick Nash off to New York, Prospal had the most points in 2011-12 of players currently on the Jackets' roster. The 37-year-old registered 55 in 82 games but has virtually no one with any significant offensive skill to play with in 2012-13. Derick Brassard was the next best point producer last season with 41. For Columbus fans, it must be hard to be hopeful a lockout can be averted, when this is the team they will watch.
