The mid-season acquisition missed out on the team's most recent game Saturday, but was able to travel with his teammates for their four-game road trip. With that in mind, it's entirely possible that Stalberg will be ready to return at some point in the next week. A 2010 Stanley Cup Champion, Stalberg is a strong skater who can occasionally put the puck in the net, but with 11 goals and 15 points this season, he's not a reliable fantasy play.

Stalberg's status remains up as far as when he will be available to suit up, but it is certainly a step in the right direction that he will be with the team. Prior to getting hurt, the winger was stuck in a rut with an eight-game pointless streak, during which he managed just seven shots on goal. Failure to put the puck on the net is certainly a factor in the 31-year-old's low-end fantasy value as you can't score if you don't shoot. Coach Guy Boucher should provide an update once Stalberg is cleared to return to action.

Fortunately for the Senators, Mark Stone is ready to return from his lower-body injury in this next contest. As for Stalberg, he's only provided two goals and an assist over 12 contests since being acquired from the Hurricanes at the trade deadline, with this injury further numbing his fantasy prospects.

EDGE Analysis

While Stalberg has been skating in a fourth-line role, he received a legitimate power-play look for the first time as a Senator on Wednesday and rewarded with the two-point showing. It's unlikely he's able to make a major difference at even strength without a promotion up the lineup, and relying on his power-play production isn't advised. Still, he's a player to watch in deep seasonal leagues. Stalberg would boast modest upside with a top-six gig.

Stalberg posted nine goals in 57 games with the Hurricanes, but it's unlikely he'll add much to that total skating on the fourth line in Ottawa. The move to acquire the veteran gives the Senators some nice depth from top to bottom, but doesn't do a lot for his short-term fantasy appeal.

The Sens don't seem to think much of the 2017 draft class, as after making this deal, they own only three picks in June's draft. Stalberg is on an expiring contract and Ottawa will be hoping that he can be an upgrade to their bottom-six forward group. A 22-goal scorer in 2011-12, Stalberg has failed to hit double-digits in every season since, though he does have nine goals in 57 games this campaign. A powerful skater with decent ability around the goal, Stalberg may be able to improve his offensive output with a change in scenery.

Stalberg scored a goal and finished with a plus-1 rating in Friday's 3-0 win against the Senators.

Stalberg snapped an 11-game scoreless drought dating back to Jan. 20. Until he starts to etch his name onto the scoresheet with a little more frequency he can mostly be avoided for fantasy purposes.

The tally was just his 11th point of the season, putting Stalberg roughly on pace for another 20-point campaign, similar to last year. Averaging just 12 minutes per night on the Canes' fourth line, Stalberg still does not offer much fantasy value outside of deeper formats.

Stalberg saw ice time of just 8:14 in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Penguins, his second-lowest TOI of the season.

Stalberg's ice time was as high as 13-15 minutes just a few short weeks ago, however his inability to generate offense has resulted in a significantly diminished role on the Canes' fourth line. He is currently in the midst of a nine-game pointless drought and has just nine points in 33 games this season. As such, his fantasy value is currently restricted to medium and deeper formats only -- feel free to seek out more viable alternatives on your league's waiver wire.

Stalberg's two goals in the first period accounted for all of Carolina's offense in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers.

The Blueshirts employed the Swedish winger last year, but let him go over the offseason following his meager 20 points in 75 games. His response was to exact revenge in his return to Madison Square Garden, as Stalberg tied his season high with five shots and picked up his first two-goal game since way back on Dec. 2, 2011 -- a span of nearly five years in which he's played for four NHL franchises. The 30-year-old has been on a heater of late, scoring four times in the last five games after picking up only three points in his first 16. Still, considering his modest ice time, it's hard to expect this to persist.
