Rask made 25 saves Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Flyers. It was his season debut.
EDGE Analysis
Rask had inked a one-year deal worth $1 million on Tuesday. He underwent hip surgery in July that repaired a torn labrum, and looked in fine form on Thursday. Rask was beaten by Cam Atkinson on a redirect on the power play in the second period. And then Joel Farabee finished a 2-on-1 with Atkinson later that period. Rask will get plenty of rest and will probably operate in a platoon, just as he has in the past. The Bruins won't risk his hip, and will allow him to play into game shape.

EDGE Analysis

The 34-year-old netminder was rock solid with the Bruins last season, going 15-5-2 while posting a 2.28 GAA, a .913 save percentage and two shutouts. Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman have both played pretty well as Boston's top-two options in goal this season, so at this point it isn't clear how the starts will be distributed between the three netminders going forward.

Rask was released from his professional tryout with AHL Providence on Tuesday, Mark Divver of the New England Hockey Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Unfortunately for Rask, due to COVID-19 related postponements, he was unable to get onto the ice for the Bruins minor-league affiliate. The veteran netminder should rejoin Boston for practice sessions and could be in line to sign an NHL contract at some point in the near future.

Rask (hip) agreed to terms on a professional tryout agreement with AHL Providence on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Rask's PTO with the Bruins' minor-league affiliate is the first step toward the veteran netminder getting back into NHL action. Barring any setbacks, the Finn seems poised to sign a permanent NHL deal with Boston before the trade deadline, which will create a logjam on the organizational depth chart. In the meantime, the Bruins will continue to utilize the duo of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman.

Rask (hip) has received NHL permission to use the Bruins' training facility as he rehabilitates from surgery, according to a report by Elliotte Friedman during Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
EDGE Analysis
Jeez, no pressure on Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman at all. Rask's recovery continues away from public eyes, but the fact he's in the Boston system to do his rehab seems like a clear indicator the team will take every opportunity to get him back in the fold when he's ready.

Rask, who underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip in late July, believes that he'll be ready to return to action late this year or early in 2022, NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
"I'll be ready to go probably around Christmastime, January," Rask noted Wednesday. "So hopefully I can start skating here in a month and a half or so and then progress from there and be ready to go in January." Though the The 34-year-old is an unrestricted free agent, he's made it clear that if he does resume his NHL playing career, it would be with the Bruins. Moreover, Rask -- who's coming off an eight-year, $56 million contract with Boston -- indicated that "money won't be an issue" if a return to the team ends up being in the cards. Such an outcome hinges on his recovery and rehab going well, with coach Bruce Cassidy not counting on Rask being able to play "until well into February I would think or late January." Until then the Bruins will go with promising prospect Jeremy Swayman and free-agent acquisition Linus Ullmark as their goalies, and if/when Rask is ready to go at some point this coming season, evaluations and/or moves will be made by the team at that time.
