Bertuzzi recently underwent a procedure on his knee, Dhiren Mahiban of The Canadian Press reports.The 39-year-old Bertuzzi had been pursuing a return to the NHL this season, only to see his plans thwarted when he developed the knee issue while skating with AHL Binghamton on a professional tryout offer. It's unclear how long of a recovery timetable Bertuzzi will face following the procedure, but regardless, it seems likely that the winger could just decide to call it a career.

Bertuzzi was released from his professional tryout offer with AHL Binghamton on Wednesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Bertuzzi developed a knee issue shortly after he began playing with Binghamton, ending his quest to earn his way back to the NHL. He'll likely take some time off to recover from the injury, but it's not known if he plans to consider another comeback bid.

Bertuzzi signed a professional tryout offer Friday with AHL Binghamton, the Senators' minor-league affiliate. The 39-year-old looked like he would be headed for retirement after playing for the Red Wings last season, but he's not quite ready to close the book on his career. He'll presumably skate in several games for Binghamton in what amounts to a showcase for NHL teams.

Todd Bertuzzi probably won't be back with the Red Wings next season. He would like to be back in Detroit, but there doesn't appear to be any room for him on the roster. Bertuzzi skated in 59 games this past season, but he only missed eight contests due to injury.

"I was disappointed not to get into the mix of the playoffs. I still feel like I can play, and I'd love to come back, but I don't know if there's room."

Todd Bertuzzi will suit up in Game 4 Thursday night. He is slated to start on a line with Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar. Bertuzzi was a healthy scratch for the first three games of the series. He will replace Tomas Jurco.
