Downie spent 17 minutes in the penalty box Saturday against the Islanders. Donwie earned a five-minute penalty for fighting with Travis Hamonic in the first period and would later receive a 10-minute misconduct in the third. That penalty would ultimately yield a power-play goal for the Islanders that essentially salted the game away, but Downie's fantasy owners won't be negatively impacted. The winger's 79 penalty minutes on the season lead the league and make him a major asset in that category, but he's not a total liability elsewhere like most bottom-six forwards. He's been a viable contributor on offense with his new team, netting three goals and seven assists over 19 games.

Downie scored one goal and assisted on another Tuesday, finishing plus-3 against the Canadiens. For the first time in seven games, Downie failed to take at least one penalty -- a good sign for his future on the team's third line. Chances are the feisty forward will revert back to his penalty-taking ways for fantasy owners, perhaps as soon as Friday against the Islanders.

Downie takes a six-game penalty streak (35 PIM) into Tuesday's game against Montreal. Along with Dion Phaneuf, Downie leads the NHL with 15 minor penalties in 16 games. Playing primarily on Pittsburgh's third line with Brandon Sutter and now Beau Bennett, the points have dried up for Downie -- he's scoreless in four -- though he does seven points (2G,5A) overall. He leads the league with 60 penalty minutes, but the minors continue to put the Pens in bad spots. As a result, there's a chance coach Johnston sits Downie as a healthy scratch at times -- at the least, it's something for Downie fantasy owners to keep an eye on.

Downie, who will play Tuesday, left Saturday's game as a precautionary measure after hitting his head on the ice during a fight with Mike Weber. Downie and Weber both hit the ice will holding on to each other's sweaters. The physical forward was a full participant in Monday's practice and showed no ill-effects from his fight. Downie has carved out a spot on Pittsburgh's third line with his combination of offensive production and fighting ability.

Downie (undisclosed) is healthy and will play Tuesday against the Rangers, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Reiew reports. Downie left Saturday's game after getting banged up in a fight, but is feeling fine and will play Tuesday. The gritty winger has racked up two goals, five assists, and a league-leading 54 PIM in 13 games to date.

Downie left Saturday's game early with an undisclosed injury. He didn't see much time after fighting Mike Weber in the second period. Downie skated 12 shifts, recorded one shot, and added to his league leading total of 54 penalty minutes before exiting the game.

Downie racked up a goal, assist, three hits, 22 PIM and a plus-3 rating Thursday against the Jets. He got into it with Dustin Byfuglien wasn't flagged for fighting, failing to record the sought-after Gordie Howe hat trick. Pittsburgh's third line of Downie, Brandon Sutter and Nick Spaling has outshined both Sidney Crosby's and Evgeni Malkin's lines in the last two games -- something which hasn't often happened since the days of Jordan Staal, Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy. Downie now has two goals, five assists and 34 penalty minutes in his last eight contests.

Downie was named the No. 1 star Tuesday after collecting two points on the power play, including a goal and an assist. He saw his power-play time with the Penguins already up by two goals in the third period, but Downie showed off some of his offensive talent for one of the first times in a Pittsburgh sweater. The rugged forward finished with four shots on goal, two penalty minutes, one block and a minus-1 rating in just over 13 minutes (13:18) of action.

Downie makes for a good penalty-minutes play Wednesday as he suits up against Philadelphia in a heated rivalry between the two Pennsylvanian teams. The former Flyer, who has yet to pick up a point in four games, collected 13 PIM Saturday against the Islanders. The Penguins and Philly have a history of mixing things up and Downie figures to be at the center of the contentiousness Wednesday.

Penguins head coach Mark Johnston said Downie missed practice on Sunday because of a minor shoulder injury but will play in Pittsburgh's game on Thursday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Downie, who is known more for his toughness, has only managed two shots on goal this season and two penalty minutes in two games this season. He is more of a role player for Pittsburgh so he really only has value in deeper leagues.
