Weber (ankle) was traded from the Canadiens to the Golden Knights on Thursday in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov.
EDGE Analysis
This is more of a business move than a hockey move, as it's unlikely Weber will play again. The Golden Knights will stash Weber on long-term injured reserve, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports. The defenseman has four years left on his contract.

Weber (ankle) is expected to miss the upcoming season and has likely played his last NHL game. General manager Marc Bergevin told reporters, "Even missing a practice for him wasn't an option. He has a lot of mileage...he won't be back next season, and probably won't be back for his career," Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
If Weber is in fact unable to continue playing, then he figures to spend the next five seasons on long-term injured reserve for the Canadiens. This would give the club the ability to exceed the cap by $7.8 million annually unless it opts to trade Weber's contract to another team. If this does mark the end of the four-time All-Star's NHL career, he will retire having appeared in 1038 games for Nashville and Montreal in which he racked up 224 goals and 365 assists, including 239 power-play points.

Weber, who played through a thumb injury in the playoffs, may miss the entirety of the upcoming season due to lingering foot and ankle issues, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weber has often played through injuries during his career, but that appears to be catching up with him at 35 years old. Per Friedman, the lingering injury is in Weber's left foot or ankle, where he had surgery to repair torn tendons in March of 2018. The Canadiens, in coordination with the league and the NHLPA, are evaluating what his long-term future will look like. With doubts about his health ahead of 2021-22, the captain could be left unprotected ahead of next Wednesday's Seattle expansion draft to allow the Canadiens to protect a healthier player.

Weber played through a thumb injury during the playoffs, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Interim head coach Dominique Ducharme didn't elaborate on Weber's injury much in his comments after Wednesday's Game 5 loss. Weber managed a goal and five helpers in 22 playoff contests. The defenseman added 72 hits, 40 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating while skating on the top pairing.

Weber managed an assist, five shots on goal and three blocked shots in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Lightning in Game 3.
EDGE Analysis
Weber set up Phillip Danault's tally at 11:16 of the first period to put the Canadiens on the board, although they never pulled even. The 35-year-old Weber has been more of a physical presence than a scorer in the playoffs. He has six points, 63 hits, 47 shots on net, 35 blocked shots, 24 PIM and a plus-3 rating through 20 contests in a top-four role.

Weber added an assist, six hits and five shots in Monday night's 5-1 loss to the Lightning in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
EDGE Analysis
In his first ever Stanley Cup Finals game, the Habs captain was active all night, assisting on the team's only goal by Ben Chiarot in the second period and providing six hits and five shots on net in 25:20 of ice time. Weber has just five points in 18 games in this year's playoffs, along with 60 hits, 31 blocks and 40 shots.

Weber scored a power-play goal on two shots and added three hits in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Golden Knights in Game 6.
EDGE Analysis
Weber capitalized on a failed clearance by Vegas' Alec Martinez. The goal was Weber's first of the postseason -- he's added three assists, 24 PIM, 54 hits and 31 blocked shots across 17 outings. He's seen significantly less power-play time since Jeff Petry returned to the lineup in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals, which could limit Weber's usefulness in DFS during the Cup Finals.

Weber recorded a shorthanded assist, four hits, two blocked shots, two shots on net and two PIM in Friday's 1-0 win over the Jets in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
Weber seemed to do a bit of everything Friday. He set up Tyler Toffoli's second-period tally, which was the only goal in the game. After Weber went scoreless in all seven games versus the Maple Leafs, he's picked up an assist in each of the last two contests. The defenseman has added 25 shots on net, 28 hits, 13 blocked shots and 18 PIM through nine playoff outings.

Weber had a power-play assist, five shots on net, three hits and one blocked shot in Montreal's 5-3 win over Winnipeg in Game 1 of their playoff series Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Weber, who missed the final eight games of the regular season due to an upper-body injury, has played all eight games of the postseason. The assist was his first postseason point, although he's had an impact in other areas. The defenseman has 23 shots, 24 hits and 11 blocked shots thus far in the playoffs.

Weber (upper body) will return to the lineup for Game 1 versus Toronto on Thursday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Prior to getting hurt, Weber managed just one goal and one assist in his previous 14 contests. That disappointing end to the season saw the veteran blueliner miss the 20-point mark for just the second time since his rookie campaign back in 2005-06. The British Columbia native logged 2:22 of ice time per game with the man advantage this season and should continue to see opportunities on the power play heading into the playoffs.
