Roman Hamrlik will break a long-standing Czech hockey record on Saturday. Hamrlik, on Saturday, will play in his 1,315th NHL game. That will set the record for most games played for a player born, raised and trained in the Czech Republic. The record is currently held by Bobby Holik. "I never thought I can make that number," Hamrlik said. "When you hit a thousand games, it's just going faster and faster. And obviously I'm jut happy to be here and still have lots of passion for the game and still have some dream. For me, it's nice to have that number, but I have to focus on my game."

Roman Hamrlik will probably see time on Washington's power play this season. "It's a look we haven't had before, it's something that we really like, and it was one of the first things I thought of when we got him," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "That left-handed guy that could help on the power play, and he's so smart. He wasn't [drafted] first overall for nothing." He performed well with the man advantage on Monday night. It's still unclear who he will play with during the regular season, but he has been paired with Dennis Wideman throughout camp and the two them appear to be gelling.

Roman Hamrlik left practice on Saturday with tightness in his groin. It is just precautionary and Hamrlik expects to return to practice on Sunday. He told coach Bruce Boudreau early in the week that he had some tightness so when it returned on Saturday, Boudreau got him off the ice. "To be safe," Hamrlik said. "I felt a little tightness in my groin, but I wanted to be safe and go through training camp. I think it was a good move by Bruce." Hamrlik had five goals and 34 points with the Canadiens last season. Expect a similar type season with the Capitals this year.

Roman Hamrlik has signed a two-year/$7 million deal with the Washington Capitals. Hamrlik is a great addition to any team. He scored five goals and 34 points in 79 games with Montreal last season while also blocking a team-leading 192 shots. He should be a big help to the Capitals as they try and reverse their fortunes in the playoffs.

La Presse is reporting that Roman Hamrlik will get a contract offer from the Montreal Canadiens. The defenseman's agent, Petr Svoboda, told the newspaper that Montreal GM Pierre Gauthier would put an offer on the table in the coming days, but he wouldn't comment on the specifics of the potential deal. Hamrlik is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in July if he doesn't agree to terms with the Canadiens.
