Spaling (upper body) won't play Saturday against the Bruins, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
EDGE Analysis
Saturday marks the third straight contest Spaling will miss with an upper-body injury. He practiced with the team earlier this week, but apparently still isn't healthy enough to return to game action. The 27-year-old forward's next chance to draw back into the Leafs' lineup will come Monday against Boston.

Spaling (upper body) returned to practice Wednesday, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spaling missed Tuesday's game against Colorado with an upper-body injury, but returned to practice Wednesday, indicating he should be good to go for Friday's tilt against the Hurricanes. The 27-year-old forward has tallied two assists in 15 games this season.

Toronto head coach Mike Babcock said Spaling will not be in the lineup Tuesday night when the Leafs host the Avalanche, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports, citing the center's various injuries and faceoff troubles.
EDGE Analysis
Despite Spaling reportedly having dealt with three different injuries this season, he's made his way into all but three games thus far. Unfortunately, he has only recorded two assists and 10 PIM this campaign and his faceoff percentage has only been above 50 percent once in the past five games. You're likely to find plenty of skaters on the waiver wire that can offer more than Spaling in 2015-16.

Spaling (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Monday against the Stars, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spaling has been sidelined since Oct. 24 because of the undisclosed issue, but was present at practice Monday and centered the third line alongside Daniel Winnik and Joffrey Lupul. He will now return to the lineup, likely working on the same line for Monday's contest against the Stars.

Spaling (undisclosed) has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 24, David Alter of National Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spaling, a versatile center, reportedly lands on injured reserve as the result of Tyler Bozak and Jake Gardiner returning from their respective lower-body injuries Friday evening. He'll be eligible to return in time for a Nov. 2 matchup against the visiting Stars.

Spaling (undisclosed) will likely miss his second straight game Friday against the Rangers, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spaling briefly appeared in Thursday's practice, but departed after just 10 minutes of participation. His availability for Friday's tilt against the Rangers should be confirmed prior to puck drop Friday night, but at this point it appears highly unlikely that the 27-year-old forward will be able to suit up for the contest.

Spaling will miss Monday's game against the Coyotes with an undisclosed injury.
EDGE Analysis
While the source of Spaling's injury wasn't revealed, it seems likely it came in Saturday's game against the Canadiens. In his absence, Peter Holland is expected to center the second line alongside Shawn Matthias and Brad Boyes. Spaling's next chance to return will come Friday against the Rangers.

Spaling has really clicked with Daniel Winnik on the Leafs' third line so far this season and they have been instrumental on the team's penalty kill.
EDGE Analysis
They have a defense-first mindset and both work incredibly hard with and without the puck. And they both can add a splash of offense -- Spaling reached double-digit goals twice while in Nashville. But most of what he does will go unnoticed in a game, except perhaps to his coaches and his goaltender. And that minimizes any fantasy value he might have.

Maple Leafs assistant GM Kyle Dubas said that Spaling will move back to center during the upcoming season. With the Penguins already having Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Brandon Sutter on hand as down-the-middle players last season, Spaling played almost exclusively on the wing during his time in Pittsburgh. While it enabled him to see more frequent ice time than would otherwise be afforded to him, Spaling is a more natural fit at center, the position he played during his five-year run with the Penguins. The Maple Leafs' depth chart remains in flux at the moment with Tyler Bozak believed to be on the trading block, but even if Bozak is moved, Spaling might have to settle for third- or fourth-line duties.
