Smid (upper body) resumed skating Thursday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. While getting back on the ice represents a positive development, Smid has been out since late January with the injury, so he's not close to being activated from IR. Smid could resume practicing with the team next week at the earliest, at which point a timetable for his return might become available.

Smid (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Monday, Aaron Vickers of the Flames' official site reports. Smid was placed on injured reserve Jan. 20, which left the door open for his return following the All-Star break. His status for Tuesday's game appears in doubt, however, as he did not return to the ice Monday. The team should officially release the details of his availability at some point before the opening faceoff of the team's tilt with the Sabres.

Smid's injury is being listed as an upper-body ailment, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports. It was an upper-body injury that kept Smid out of commission for most of December and the early part of January, so it's possible that he might have aggravated something Monday night. In any case, the Flames have already moved him back to injured reserve and have recalled Tyler Wotherspoon from AHL Adirondack for insurance on defense.

Smid was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with an undisclosed injury. It appears Smid sustained some sort of ailment during Monday's win over the Kings, though the Flames haven't released word on the nature or severity of the injury. The blueliner had just been activated from IR on Jan. 7 after missing 10 consecutive games with an upper-body injury. Tyler Wotherspoon was recalled from AHL Adirondack in a corresponding move to restore some depth on defense. Smid will be eligible to return from IR for the Flames' first game after the All-Star break on Jan. 27.

Smid (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports. Smid has been practicing for the last few days with the team, and while he won't necessarily play Wednesday, it appears the team was comfortable in bringing him aboard as an extra defenseman. He should gradually work his way back into the lineup to play a third-pairing role, but won't offer much fantasy appeal outside of leagues that count hits and blocked shots.

Smid (upper body) is considered doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Red Wings despite getting in a full practice with the team Monday. Smid has been shelved with the injury since Dec. 12 after taking a big hit from the Penguins' Simon Despres. Assuming he can't go again Wednesday, he will have to wait until Friday for his next chance to return.

Smid is expected back at practice Sunday and may be in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Wings, the Calgary Sun reports. Smid will likely replace either Deryk Engelland or Raphael Diaz in the lineup. He doesn't produce much offensively, with only a point on the season, but brings some toughness to the Flames' lineup.

Smid (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports. Smid suffered the injury in Friday's loss to the Penguins, skating for just 8:33 before departing. The Flames were quick to determine the injury wasn't merely a day-to-day situation, as the placement on IR will keep him out for at least three games. Expect the Flames to announce a call-up on defense prior to Sunday's tilt with the Blackhawks.

Smid (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Penguins. Smid left the game in the second period after taking a big hit from Simon Despres. He was able to get up under his own power and skate off the ice, but immediately headed to the Flames' locker room. The team should shed some light on the severity of Smid's injury in the coming days.
