Poulin was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Thursday,'s Brian Compton reports.

Poulin's demotion would seem to suggest that Jaroslav Halak (lower body) is at least capable of serving in a backup capacity for Saturday's game against the Devils. The 24-year-old only spent one game with the Islanders, serving as the understudy to Michal Neuvirth.

Poulin was recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Monday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.

Poulin will more than likely be the backup goaltender as Jaroslav Halak didn't join the Islanders on their road trip to Chicago. Poulin will return to Bridgeport as soon as Halak is ready to go.

Poulin allowed three goals on 26 shots in the Islanders' 4-3 shootout loss to Buffalo on Saturday.

With Jaroslav Halak (lower body) on injured reserve, Poulin made a surprise start. Things were going quite well ... until the previously dormant Sabres pushed three goals past Poulin during a devastating six-minute span in the third period. Halak could return as early as Monday.

Poulin will be in the net Saturday versus the Sabres.

Poulin was a surprise recall from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday morning in the wake of Jaroslav Halak's placement on IR, and will be rewarded right away with his first start for the Islanders this season. However, don't expect him to enjoy a long run as the Isles' starter, as Halak was on the ice for the team's morning skate and could be available as soon as Monday's game against the Capitals. Poulin has been dependable at Bridgeport this season with a 2.41 GAA and .928 save percentage over 20 outings, and could make for a quality, yet inexpensive choice in daily leagues Saturday against a Sabres squad that has dropped four games in a row.

Poulin was returned to AHL Bridgeport after Tuesday's loss to the Canadiens.

Poulin was recalled from Bridgeport prior to Tuesday's game to serve as the backup to Chad Johnson while No. 1 goalie Jaroslav Halak (undisclosed) remained unavailable. Halak's absence was somewhat of a mystery after coach Jack Capuano gave Halak the last two practices off with what were described as "maintenance days," and as Poulin's demotion would suggest, it doesn't sound like he's in danger of missing any time once the Islanders return from their Christmas break Saturday. Poulin is 9-6-4 and has a 2.54 GAA and .924 save percentage over 19 outings at Bridgeport.

Poulin was recalled by the Islanders from AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday.

Though it was believed Jaroslav Halak was absent from the Isles' morning skate for maintenance purposes, he could be dealing with some sort of injury that may prevent him from backing up Chad Johnson, who was confirmed as the starter in goal for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens. If that's indeed the case, Poulin will step in as the No. 2 goalie for the Islanders, but he likely won't be in line to see any duty during his time with the parent club.

Poulin was placed on waivers Saturday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Poulin's chances of opening the season with the Islanders were dashed when the team added Jaroslav Halak and Chad Johnson to their goalie ranks in the offseason. He's expected to clear waivers and serve as the primary netminder for AHL Bridgeport.

Kevin Poulin has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the New York Islanders.

Poulin comes with a $650,000 annual cap hit, but he'll technically only make $175,000 per season at the AHL level. We say technically because his contract comes with a guarantee that he'll earn no less than $275,000 annually, so he'll end up getting at least that amount even if he never gets called up to the Islanders.
