Akeson was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday. The Flyers moved defenseman Braydon Coburn (lower body) to open up the 23-man roster spot for Akeson. With Scott Laughton nursing an upper-body ailment, Akeson's arrival will help the Flyers restore some depth at forward. However, Akeson's opportunities to join the lineup could be limited, as he was a total non-factor after earning a roster spot with the parent club out of training camp. He was held without a point over 12 games with Philadelphia before getting placed on waivers.

Akeson cleared waivers and was assigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Friday. The 24-year-old went unclaimed after failing to muster a single point over 12 games with the Flyers. Playing outside of a top-six role seemed to be his downfall with the Flyers, but he's proven to be a potent scorer in the AHL when he receives more consistent minutes.

Akeson was waived by the Flyers on Thursday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports. Akeson received the opportunity to compete for a top-six role with the Flyers in training camp, but was never able to gain much momentum in the job battle. Forced to settle for checking-line duties for most of the season, Akeson has predictably struggled to provide much offense, accumulating no points and seven shots on goal over 12 games. The Flyers will hope to sneak him back to AHL Lehigh Valley in an attempt to help him rediscover his scoring touch.

Akeson will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Stars, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Akeson hasn't taken well to checking-line duty in the first two weeks of the season, accruing no points through four games. While he has shown a willingness to hit (seven) in his limited ice time, he's unlikely to yield much fantasy value so long as he remains outside of the team's top-six forward ranks.

Akeson scored on a nifty backhand in Thursday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Capitals. Akeson flashed some energy at the end of last season, and his enthusiasm figures to make him a fan favorite. As a fourth-liner, his ice-time limitations diminish his fantasy value, so he'll go undrafted in many leagues. But his knack for scoring make him a nice value pick in late rounds.

Akeson is expected to win a role with the Flyers as a fourth-line winger, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. While making his first Opening Night roster would certainly represent an accomplishment for Akeson, there was hope heading into training camp that the 24-year-old might be asked to fill a role in the team's top six, following the departure of Scott Hartnell. After a prodigious point-scorer during his time at AHL Adirondack and a productive showing for the Flyers in their first-round playoff loss to the Rangers last spring, Akeson seems to have more offensive potential than the typical fourth liner, but a lack of quality linemates could prove detrimental. Still, Akeson remains worth tracking in the event an injury or ineffective play from one of the Flyers' wings forces him up the depth chart.

The Philadelphia Flyers have inked Jason Akeson to a one-year, two-way contract. Akeson had 24 goals and 64 points in 70 AHL games in 2013-14. He's worth keeping an eye on during training camp even if he's far from a safe bet to make the team.

The Philadelphia Flyers have made a qualifying offer to Jason Akeson. The 24-year-old was a pleasant surprise in the post-season after playing in the last game of the season in each of the last two seasons. Akeson managed two goals and three points in the seven game series against the Rangers and that play, along with a 24 goal, 64 point effort in the AHL in 2013-14, was enough to warrant a qualifying offer from Philadelphia.

Jason Akeson scored the only Flyers goal in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers in Game 7 of their first round playoff series. Akeson's third period tally cut the Rangers' lead in half, but the Flyers weren't able to draw any closer. Braydon Coburn and Matt Read picked up helpers on Philly's solitary goal.

Jason Akeson has been a pleasant surprise for the Flyers in the playoffs. Akeson was recalled for the final regular season game and has played in all five playoff matches to date. He has a goal and two points in the post-season and has averaged 12:06 minutes of ice time in the series. The 23-year-old should have a great chance to crack the Flyers lineup next season as he had 24 goals and 64 points in 70 AHL games this season.
