Jamal Mayers has announced his retirement at the age of 39. Mayers was hopeful in July that he could extended his career, but that didn't work out. That being said, he was able to end his tenure as a member of the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks. He also played for St. Louis, Toronto, Calgary, and San Jose during his 14 season career. He will hang up his skates after recording 219 points and 1,200 penalty minutes in 915 games.

Jamal Mayers has decided to put off retirement for at least one more season. Mayers was tempted by the prospect of hanging up his skates as a Stanley Cup winner. Now his agent has confirmed that he's looking for a new contract and hopes to sign before training camp. He's an unrestricted free agent.

Jamal Mayers thinks he can still play, but that he's thinking about retirement all the same. "I feel like I can still skate, and in today's game you have to be able to skate to keep up with those young kids," Mayers said. "I feel like I can still skate, can still play. But there's a lot of consideration with family and it's not just about me. We'll have to make that decision in the net little while." Mayers is 38 and had two assists in 19 games this season. If he retires now, his last moment as a player will have been lifting the Stanley Cup.

Jamal Mayers will determine if he will retire or continue to play within the next few weeks. He said, "if I walk away, I can walk away a champion." Mayers didn't play during the 2013 playoffs, but he was the third player - after Jonathan Toews and Michal Handzus - to lift the Stanley Cup. He suited up in 19 games during the regular season though and has 915 contests under his belt in his career. Mayers can become an unrestricted free agent on July 5.

Jamal Mayers was upfront about his reasoning for shooting pucks at the Detroit Red Wings during the Saturday's pre-game warmups. Mayers was fined a half days pay as a result of the incident. "I was trying to get under their skin, I'm not going to hide behind it or lie to you," Mayers said. "The league fined me and took the appropriate action and I'll play the piper. All of us in there will do anything to win. I don't want the focus to be me. I was just trying to get under their skin. The guys are playing unbelievable and playing really well. We've got a huge task in front of us." Chicago hasn't dressed him for a single game in the 2013 playoffs.

Jamal Mayers was fined by the NHL for a pre-game incident. In other words, he broke a rule in a game where he was a healthy scratch. He'll be charged a half days pay, which for him is about $1,600.

Jamal Mayers will dress Monday night versus Los Angeles. He has been a healthy scratch for the past five games. "I've been skating hard and keeping myself ready," Mayers said. "The team is playing extremely well. Everybody wants to play. That's what my makeup is. I have to give him a reason to keep me in. I'm excited about the chance to get in (Monday night)." He has 13 hits and 16 penalty minutes in 13 games this season, so look for him to bring a rambunctious style to the game.

Jamal Mayers was a healthy scratch on Sunday. Mayers joined Brandon Bollig in the press box as Sheldon Brookbank drew into the lineup. Mayers has played in half of the Blackhawks 22 games this season and has two assists, a plus-three rating and 14 penalty minutes. He is not worth owning at this time.

Jamal Mayers got into a fight with Raffi Torres early in Thursday's game. It was Torres first game in Chicago since he delivered a hit during the 2012 playoffs that hospitalized Marian Hossa. That incident made Torres very unpopular in Chicago, in addition to earning him a 25-game suspension that was later reduced to 21 games. With all that in mind, the fight was to be expected. "I realize what my job is at this point," Mayers said. "It still doesn't excuse what happened, but I give (Torres) credit: he was willing to go." That fight sparked Chicago as they had an explosive first period en route to a 6-2 victory.

Jamal Mayers played in his 900th NHL game on Saturday. Congratulations to Jamal on the achievement. The 38-year-old has stayed in the NHL with his tough play as he has accumulated 1,193 penalty minutes in his career to go with 90 goals and 217 points. He is not worth selecting at this time as he is in and out of the lineup too much to have any value.
