The Washington Capitals signed goaltender Braden Holtby to a five-year, $30.5 million contract Friday, according to the Canadian Press. Holtby earned the long-term deal after his best statistical season in 2015, when he tallied a career-best 41 wins and finished top-10 in the league in goals-against average and save percentage. General Manager Brian MacLellan had nothing but praise for Holtby after the deal was signed, saying that he believes he will be a key factor in the success of the team for years to come.“Braden emerged as a top NHL goaltender and we are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract,” MacLellan said. “We feel Braden is just entering his prime and in his young career has already established himself as one of the best goaltenders in the history of our franchise. He is an athletic goaltender with a tremendous work ethic and is a big part of our future.”
