Mitchell re-signed with the Canadiens on a three-year, $3.6 million contract Monday, Steven Whyno of The Canadian Press reports. Acquired from the Sabres prior to the trade deadline last season, Mitchell proved to be a useful cog in the Canadiens' bottom-six ranks. Though he only provided one point in his 14 regular-season games with the Habs, he ratcheted up his production in the postseason, supplying a goal and four assists across 12 contests. Mitchell isn't likely to see his role grow as a result of the scoring output, but he should be relatively secure in his standing as the team's top centering option on the checking line.
