Hoffman will hear from the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Friday concerning his cross-check to the head of Sharks forward Logan Couture in the third period of Wednesday's game, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Garrioch adds that Hoffman's punishment -- assuming there is one -- will result in a four-game ban as the worst-case scenario, or he may only be fined, considering that it's a phone hearing as opposed to a mandated appearance in front of any type of hockey court. Hoffman was assessed a major penalty and ejected from the game due to the controversial play, and working against him is that Couture left with an undisclosed injury. It will be interesting to see what the ruling is here.
