Franson failed to register a point Sunday against Winnipeg, extending his cold streak to seven games.
EDGE Analysis
Franson played just 14:58 on Sunday even though Jake McCabe (lower body) didn't play the final 9:40 of the third period, the fourth time in five games he's played 15 minutes or less. With just 13 points and a minus-4 rating in 42 games, the 6-foot-5 Franson has neither been a top power-play quarterback nor a bruising, crease-clearing force. He's firmly entrenched on the team's third pairing and has seen young players such as McCabe leapfrog him on the depth chart. Franson himself was surprised about the lack of interest in him over the summer, finally inking a two-year contract in September, but it looks like there were good reasons he couldn't attract any suitors. He's waiver wire fodder until he gets a bigger role.
