Benn (abdomen) has begun skating but his status to return for training camp remains unclear, Mike Heika of DallasNews.com reports.

Benn underwent core muscle surgery on July 14 and "will take it slow" as preseason activity ramps up prior to the start of the NHL season. It's likely the star center will increase the intensity of his skating regimen as training camp gets underway. With Dallas playing seven preseason games between Sept. 26 and Oct. 7, the 27-year-old has a chance to return for several of those games. Coming off a career-best 41-goal season, the Stars' will be eagerly waiting the return of their team captain.
