Legwand was credited with an assist and picked up two PIM in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes. Legwand has tallied a point in five straight games, but it's a hot streak that doesn't offer much optimism about his future production. He saw less than 10 minutes of ice time Saturday and typically slots in as a member of the team's bottom six, where scoring chances are typically scarce.

Legwand pointed in his third straight game Tuesday against the Stars, notching a power-play assist over his 11:07 of ice time. He won only four of his 15 faceoffs (26.7 percent) in the defeat, however. The Senators continue to carve out time for Legwand on the man advantage, but his lack of even-strength minutes will probably prevent him from sustaining this scoring pace much longer. Though he's averaging 14:53 of ice time for the season, Legwand has fallen below the 14-minute mark in five consecutive games.

Legwand recorded an assist in Thursday's loss to the Avalanche. Legwand enjoyed a five-game point streak earlier in the first half of December, but his slate has been pretty dry ever since. His assist Thursday gives him just two points over his last 11 games.

Legwand improved his point streak to five games by scoring a power-play goal in Saturday's win over the Bruins. Legwand's streak has flown under the radar since he's scored exactly one point in each of the games, but it's probably significant enough for deep leaguers to take notice. He's seeing ample time on the power play and should remain an important supporting cast player for Ottawa.

Legwand potted his fifth goal of the season in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Canucks. Legwand's power-play tally came about halfway through the second period and helped ignite the Sens' comeback from a 3-0 deficit. The former No. 2 overall pick typically saves his best work for the faceoff circle, where he leads all Ottawa pivots with a 51 percent win percentage, but he's started to increase his offensive production of late as well. He's picked up a point in three straight games and five of his last six.

Legwand scored the Senators' only goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Lightning. It came on the power play. He's been quiet in Canada's capital, but he has finally put a point on the board in each of his last two games. It is by no means a streak, but it's better than nothing. He's had two, 50-plus point seasons in his last three years, but it doesn't look like he'll challenge that this time out. Keep him on your bench or better yet, on the waiver wire until he amps up his production.

Legwand was a central figure in Thursday's comeback victory over the Avalanche, recording a goal and assist in the 5-3 win. After the Sens fell behind 3-1 in the first period, Legwand cut the deficit to one goal with Ottawa riding the man advantage. The Sens would then feast on the Avs' No. 3 goalie, Dennis Everberg, in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals, with Legwand assisting on the ultimate one. Legwand figures to remain in a bottom-six role for the Senators this season, but he should offer a little more scoring ability than the average third- or fourth-line center.

The signing of David Legwand should take away some pressure from Kyle Turris and Mika Zibanejad. Legwand believes he can serve as the team's second-line center and GM Bryan Murray likes his versatility. "David is a good veteran center, a guy who skates pretty well and gets up and down the ice," Murray said in an audio statement. "He's an experienced guy who can fit in either at the top or bottom of the lineup. He has been a captain and a leader, so we know we're getting a good person." Legwand generated 14 goals and 51 points in 83 games between Nashville and Detroit last campaign.

There is a chance that newly-signed center David Legwand could play alongside winger Bobby Ryan this upcoming season. Clarke MacArthur, the Sens' other natural left winger has developed chemistry with top pivot Kyle Turris, so it seems logical that the club's other top port-sider would line up with Legwand, who is slated to be Ottawa's second-line center. Although neither is a star, the Legwand-Ryan duo could be surprisingly effective.

The Ottawa Senators have signed David Legwand to a two-year, $6 million contract. Legwand had 14 goals and 51 points in 83 games with Detroit and Nashville last season. He can't hope to fill the void left by Jason Spezza, but he is a solid top-two center and is actually something of a bargain at that price. He will earn $2.5 million next season and $3.5 million in 2015-16.
