Gionta, who has served as the Sabres' captain since the 2014-15 season, is hoping to stay with the club, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 38-year-old has scored at least 30 points in each of his three seasons in Buffalo, and he believes that he can still be a valuable contributor in the NHL. Despite the Sabres' struggles, Gionta was one of the team's most consistent performers, but his role with the club is unclear with a new general manager at the helm.

Monday's game against the Panthers will be the 1000th game of Gionta's career.
EDGE Analysis
It's quite the accomplishment for the 37-year-old, who's been criticized for being too small throughout his career. The Sabres captain is no longer the goal scorer he once was, but he has certainly been a consistent producer during his time in Buffalo, scoring at least 30 points in each of his past three seasons. The Sabres captain has been a staple in the top-nine, but is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. His fantasy value is minimal in standard formats, although he may be worth a streaming start if he plays alongside Jack Eichel. Gionta has 14 goals this season and his 10.4 shooting percentage is his highest mark in three years.

Gionta managed a power-play goal and an assist in Sunday's 4-3 road loss to the Penguins.
EDGE Analysis
Both points took place in the first period, as the Sabres ended up squandering a 3-0 lead after the first frame. Gionta is lauded for his leadership abilities, but that only goes so far in the numbers-hungry world of fantasy hockey. He has three two-point efforts since the beginning of February (17 games), albeit with no goals or assists in the rest of those contests. It's hard to trust a guy like him in shallow leagues.

Gionta tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Predators.
EDGE Analysis
He'd missed the scoresheet nine consecutive times since recording two assists against the Sharks back on Feb. 7, some three weeks ago. Gionta managed to produce at a slightly elevated pace for a good chunk of the season, but he's fallen off dramatically, and with a modest 29 points in 63 games for the season, his fantasy relevance remains quite low.

Gionta picked up a pair of assists in a 5-4 overtime win against San Jose on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
He'd missed the scoresheet in three straight following a four-game point streak, so Gionta's had a bit of a see-saw effect lately. Nonetheless, he's been surprisingly productive, at least by deep-league standards. No one's going to swoon over his roughly 40-point pace, but that's usable production in certain formats.

Gionta's assist on Evander Kane's goal Thursday against Dallas now gives him a point in three straight games.
EDGE Analysis
Gionta has been very productive of late, and prior to his current streak had a goal and two assists in three games. He's on pace to set career highs as a Sabre with 11 goals and 24 points in 48 games, after finishing with 33 and 35 points over the past two seasons. A big reason for his increased production is his shooting percentage at 11.7 percent, which is almost five percent higher than last year's. He's a depth fantasy forward only in the deepest of leagues -- there's not much upside to be had in the 38-year-old.

Gionta earned a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-3 loss against the Leafs.
EDGE Analysis
The well-aged veteran has had a surprisingly productive campaign, as he owns 21 points through 44 contests, though this was his first multi-point game since Dec. 27 and only his fourth of the season. There's still not a whole lot of fantasy relevance here, especially since he has a minus-3 rating and doesn't contribute on the power play, where he has only one point despite seeing consistently significant ice time.

Gionta notched two assists -- one on the game-winner -- and a plus-2 rating during Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings.
EDGE Analysis
Gionta is one of several players enjoying Jack Eichel back in the lineup, even if he's not directly affecting his output. The 37-year-old has put up a solid December to date, potting three goals and tacking on five helpers. After November's minus-5 rating, it's good to see the veteran sitting at plus-2 this month with two contests to go.

Gionta found the back of the net in Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime win over the Oilers.
EDGE Analysis
Gionta's tally was made possible by a slick backhand feed from Marcus Foligno along the goal stripe. A small but feisty winger, Gionta is up to six goals and five helpers on the season, providing modest utility for fantasy owners in deep leagues.

Gionta compiled a goal, an assist and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Well, even an old squirrel finds a nut sometimes. The 37-year-old Gionta is far removed from his high-scoring days with the Devils and (to a lesser extent) the Habs, but with 10 points in 23 games, he's giving owners in deep formats about as much as they could possibly ask for.
