Ference (concussion) will not play Thursday against the Sharks.

Though Ference was recently able to resume skating, he has yet to practice with the Oilers yet. With only Saturday's season finale against the Canucks remaining on the Oilers' schedule, it looks like we've seen the last of Ference for 2014-15.

Ference (concussion) skated on his own prior to Saturday's team session.

Ference will remain out of the lineup Saturday, but with three games still left on the team's schedule, there's still a chance he could play before the season ends. The Oilers will probably monitor his progress in workouts over the next couple of days before determining if a return this season is feasible.

Ference could join the Oilers for their upcoming games in California, Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED radio reports.

The report doesn't state whether or not Ference will actually be able to suit up for either of Edmonton's games in California, but the fact that he may at least join the team for those contests in encouraging news. The Oilers' should provide an update on his status in the coming days.

Ference is out indefinitely with a concussion, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

With Ference -- who has 14 points in 70 games -- out, it looks like Keith Aulie is slated to skate along with Martin Marincin on the Oilers' second defensive pairing on Wednesday against the Avs.

Ference (upper body) is unlikely to play Wednesday against the Avalanche, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Ference missed Tuesday's practice after suffering an upper-body injury in Monday's loss to the Jets. Coach Todd Nelson didn't seem confident that Ference would notice enough recovery in the next several hours to be an option for Wednesday's game, and with the Oilers once again out of playoff contention, there's no real incentive for the team to play the blueliner at less than 100 percent. The team will wait and see if Ference can get closer to full health in advance of Friday's game against the Stars.

Ference will not return to Monday's game against the Jets after suffering an upper-body injury.

Ference will get one day off to rest before he has to assess his injury and determine whether or not he'll be able to play in Wednesday's game against Colorado. In the meantime, he's day-to-day until the Oilers say otherwise.

Ference scored his third goal of the season in Friday's shootout loss to the Blue Jackets.

Ference also put three shots on net in the defeat, matching his highest total of the season. As that low number would indicate, Ference typically functions as a stay-at-home defensemen, which makes the three-game assist streak he built in February all the more peculiar. He's something of an asset in the hits column (149 in 66 games), but that's likely not a large enough total to compensate for his lack of scoring and an ugly minus-17 rating.

Ference picked up an assist and went plus-2 in Thursday's win over the Canadiens. It marked the first point in 11 games for Ference, who had also failed to post a positive plus/minus rating in any of those contests. Ference contributes useful totals in the hits and blocks categories, but his lack of scoring to go along a minus-12 rating on the season make him toxic for fantasy purposes.

Ference tallied a goal in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Flames.

Any offense the Oilers get out of Ference is gravy, as he was inked to a four-year, $13 million contract in the summer of 2013 to serve as the team's shutdown defender. It's a role he's proven ill-equipped to fill so far during his tenure with Edmonton, which has noticed limited progress in tidying up the play in front of its netminders.
