Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal speculates that Ryan Whitney may have to wait until training camps open to sign on somewhere. "I still think Whitney makes a heckuva first pass out of his zone," Matheson said. "I think he can be a second unit power-play guy. Teams are always looking for defensemen. He'll get work. When? Who knows." He also believes that Nashville, Tampa Bay, Florida or the New York Islanders could be teams interested in Whitney.
