Coach Mike Johnston confirmed Malkin (undisclosed) would play at right wing in Thursday's season opener against Dallas, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Malkin didn't turn in his first practice of the preseason until Tuesday, but the Penguins are comfortable enough with where he's at on the conditioning front to give him some run Thursday. However, because of his limited time in camp in adjusting to Johnston's new system, Malkin will be eased into action at wing. It shouldn't be long before he slots back in as the second-line center, but while he remains on the outside temporarily, he figures to see less than the 20 minutes of ice time per game he averaged under Dan Bylsma last season.
