Coach Gerard Gallant said after Monday's win over the Penguins that Thornton (groin) would begin skating after the Christmas break, the Associated Press reports. Thornton had bothered by the groin for all of December before the Panthers finally decided to stowe him away on their injured list last week. He'll likely require multiple practices to regain conditioning and make Gallant feel comfortable using him in games.
