Byfuglien (lower body) returned to practice Friday and declared himself fit to play, Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Byfuglien admitted that it was a lower-body injury that had kept him out of most of training camp, making the transition back to a full-time role at forward a little more challenging than anticipated. The missed time has prompted coach Paul Maurice to table his plans of using Byfuglien in a top-six role for now, with the winger now likely to join the third line with Adam Lowry and Mathieu Perreault to start the season. While he won't play in Saturday's preseason finale, Byfuglien and Maurice are both confident that with a few more practices, he'll be able to establish some chemistry with his linemates and produce right away when the regular season gets underway. If that comes to fruition, it might not be long before Byfuglien is elevated to the second line, where he'd join Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd, both of whom compiled over 50 points last season.
