NHL sources are reporting Zenon Konopka violated the league drug policy for taking DHEA, an over-the-counter supplement recommended to him by non-team doctors. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone that comes from the adrenal gland, which is just above the kidneys. DHEA supplements are used to build muscle, fight the effects of aging, provide energy and improve mood and memory amongst other health benefits. Konopka was suspended for 20 games on Thursday for violating the terms of the league's Performance Enhancing Substances Program.
