Manuel is retiring from football, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manuel signed with Kansas City earlier this offseason to compete with Chad Henne for the backup quarterback job. The 2013 first-round pick has now decided to step away from football, perhaps discouraged by the plethora of quarterbacks on the Chiefs' roster. In addition to Henne and starter Patrick Mahomes, the team currently is carrying Chase Litton and three undrafted rookies. Manuel was cut by Oakland in September and spent the entire 2018 season unsigned.

The Chiefs signed Manuel to a contract Friday, Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Manuel has plenty of NFL experience on his resume, not much of it is good. With the Chiefs already rostering Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne, the 28-year-old signal-caller will likely battle with Chase Litton to earn a spot as a third quarterback on the 53-man roster, but the odds may be stacked against him.

Manuel was one of several quarterbacks who worked out for San Francisco on Tuesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 49ers are in need of a quarterback after losing Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) for the season with a torn ACL, and Manuel looks to be in the mix for the job. C.J. Beathard is set to take over the starting duties, and he's currently the only healthy quarterback on the roster. Manuel was released by Oakland in early September and has thrown for 20 touchdowns to 16 interceptions since being drafted in 2013.

Manuel was released by the Raiders on Saturday, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Raiders also got rid of Connor Cook, leaving Saturday trade acquisition AJ McCarron as the only quarterback behind Derek Carr. It's an odd decision to make just nine days ahead of the season opener, especially given that McCarron may not even be an upgrade on Manuel/Cook.

The Raiders re-signed Manuel on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
After an injury-plagued four seasons with the Bills, Manuel arrived in Oakland last offseason to serve as Derek Carr's backup. Forced into action in Weeks 4 and 5 when Carr was sidelined due to transverse process fractures in his back, Manuel competed 24 of 43 passes for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The presences of holdover Connor Cook and offseason addition Josh Jackson provides competition for the No. 2 job, but Manuel should have a leg up as the most experienced hand behind Carr.

Manuel completed 13 of 26 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Ravens, adding 15 yards on two carries.
EDGE Analysis
Manuel got off to a strong start and didn't commit any turnovers, but the Oakland defense couldn't hold up its end of the bargain, and an early Jared Cook fumble (returned for a touchdown) certainly didn't help. Derek Carr (back) hopes to be back for Week 6 against the Chargers as Oakland tries to avoid a 2-4 start to the season.

Manuel will start Sunday's game against the Ravens.
EDGE Analysis
Usual starter Derek Carr suffered a transverse process fracture in his back last week, and he's inactive Sunday. Carr is targeting a Week 6 return to action, so this could be a one-week assignment for Manuel. He's a speculative fantasy play in Week 5, but working in his favor is that the Raiders will welcome starting wideout Michael Crabtree back to their lineup after he missed last Sunday's contest with a chest injury.

Manuel is still expected to start Sunday for the Raiders against the Ravens, even with Derek Carr (back) listed as questionable for that contest, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite Carr being reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery from a transverse process fracture in his back and practicing on a limited basis for the second day in a row Friday, Manuel still picked up all of the first-team reps during the session, suggesting he'll be under center by the time Sunday arrives. It appears that in a best-case scenario, Carr could be active as an emergency backup rather than the unpolished Connor Cook, but Manuel would likely only head to the bench for an injury rather than performance-related reasons. In his Raiders debut in relief of the injured Carr during the Week 4 loss to the Broncos, Manuel completed 11 of 17 passes for 106 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

Manuel will start Sunday's game versus the Ravens with Derek Carr (back) sidelined, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
On Sunday in Denver, Manuel entered in relief of Carr after the latter left the contest. Although Manuel's stat line looked fair enough -- 11-for-17 passing for 106 yards and one interception -- he led the Raiders offense to just three second-half points. Carr has since been diagnosed with a transverse fracture in his back, placing Manuel under center this weekend and potentially as long as 2-to-6 weeks.

Manuel will be active for Sunday's game against the Titans.
EDGE Analysis
Manuel had an upper hand on the backup quarterback duties throughout training camp, beating out second-year Connor Cook for the role behind starter Derek Carr. Manuel isn't slated to see the field unless Carr were to suffer an injury, though it should be noted he's earned the primary backup job out of the gate.
