The Bengals have placed Sanzenbacher (concussion) on IR, ESPN's Coley Harvey reports. To fill the depth wideout void created by the absence of Sanzenbacher, the Bengals have promoted Cobi Hamilton from their practice squad. Sanzenbacher thus concludes his 2014 season with nine catches for 105 yards in 10 games.

Sanzenbacher is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Meanwhile, A.J. Green is active for the contest, with Sanzenbacher thus a break or two from emerging on the fantasy radar.

Sanzenbacher had just eight snaps in Sunday's win over the Ravens. Even with Marvin Jones out and Tyler Eifert getting hurt early, it was hard for Sanzenbacher to get any opportunities. The latter injury might have actually prohibited him from getting work, as it forced Mohamed Sanu into the slot, where Sanzenbacher might have gotten some reps.

Sanzenbacher (concussion) returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against the Colts. While he didn't catch any of his three targets, Sanzenbacher did plenty to prove his health. With Marvin Jones (foot) out for at least the first few weeks of the season, Sanzenbacher -- along with Brandon Tate and perhaps James Wright or Cobi Hamilton -- is in the mix for snaps behind A.J. Green and Mohamed Sanu. The Bengals probably won't use too many three-wide sets, as they can instead opt to split out TE Tyler Eifert or RB Giovani Bernard.

Sanzenbacher has been practicing this week, but needs to clear the final step of the concussion protocol before being able to play Sunday night. With Marvin Jones out, Sanzenbacher has an opportunity to gain extra snaps, but obviously that can only happen if he is able to get on the field first.

With Marvin Jones out with a broken foot, Mohamed Sanu will move from the slot to the outside, creating the opportunity for Sanzenbacher to win the third receiver's job, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Sanzenbacher had just six receptions last season, but Jones is out and Andrew Hawkins is in Cleveland. Sanzenbacher will have to beat out Brandon Tate and Ryan Whalen for the job, if the Bengals even use wideouts for the role. They could also spread out either Tyler Eifert or Jermaine Gresham in the slot, or even running back Giovani Bernard.

Bengals re-signed restricted free agent WR Dane Sanzenbacher to a one-year, $1.431 million contract. Sanzenbacher was tendered at the lowest level. The former undrafted free agent out of Ohio State caught six passes for 61 yards in ten games last season. He has just seven grabs the past two seasons after reeling in 27 passes as a rookie for the Bears in 2011. Sanzenbacher will compete for a roster spot.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals coaches view WR Dane Sanzenbacher as a "clone" to pre-injury Jordan Shipley in the slot. Shipley, who is now with the Jaguars, posted a 52/600/3 line for the Bengals as a rookie in 2010 before tearing up his knee early in 2011. Andrew Hawkins is locked into the slot for 2013, but perhaps the Bengals view Sanzenbacher as a potential replacement if they decide not to tender Hawkins a contract next offseason. Hawkins is a vastly superior player.

Bengals declared WR Dane Sanzenbacher, CBs Terence Newman and Jason Allen, S George Iloka, DTs Devon Still and Brandon Thompson, and TE Richard Quinn inactive for Week 17 against the Ravens. Sanzenbacher was just claimed off waivers on Christmas Eve and doesn't know the offense. Newman is dealing with a groin injury while Allen has a hamstring issue. The rest are healthy scratches.

Bengals claimed WR Dane Sanzenbacher off waivers from the Bears. After catching 27 passes for 276 yards and three scores in his 2011 rookie season, Sanzenbacher appeared in just four games, catching one pass for seven yards in Chicago this season. He just didn't fit into offensive coordinator Mike Tice's offense. Sanzenbacher will add depth in the slot behind Andrew Hawkins in Cincinnati.
