Free agent QB Graham Harrell has accepted a position on the Washington State coaching staff. Harrell played for current Cougars coach Mike Leach at Texas Tech from 2004-2008. Harrell attempted four passes for the Packers in 2012 and signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He was cut by Green Bay last August and latched on with the Jets before being apart of final cuts.

Jets agreed to terms with QB Graham Harrell, formerly of the Packers. It's entirely unclear why, as even if Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith don't play in Thursday's preseason finale, the Jets still have Greg McElroy and Matt Simms to soak up reps. Alas, the Jets. Perhaps the perpetually banged up McElroy won't play. He's dealing with an ankle injury. Either way, Harrell has zero chance at a roster spot. He was uniquely bad for the Packers this summer.

Packers waived QB Graham Harrell. The writing was on the wall. Vince Young was signed earlier this month, and he sealed up backup duties in Friday night's regular season dress rehearsal against the Raiders by completing 6-of-7 passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. V.Y. added 39 yards on the ground. Popgun-armed Harrell completed just 6-of-13 passes for 49 yards and through three preseason games, he completed just 23-of-42 passes (54.8 percent) for 169 yards (4.02 YPA) and one interception.

Packers QB Graham Harrell completed 6-of-14 passes for 49 yards in Friday night's preseason game. Harrell didn't get much O-Line help versus a ferocious Seahawks front seven, but also didn't help himself with a noodle arm and scattershot accuracy. He's a difficult player to watch and had a limiting effect on Green Bay's offense. Look for Harrell to be waived in early September. Through three preseason games, Harrell is 23-of-43 (53.5 percent) for 169 yards (3.93 YPA), an interception, and two fumbles. He's turned the ball over twice.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel considers 2013 a "make-or-break" year for backup Packers QB Graham Harrell. Harrell - a 2009 undrafted free agent who's attempted just four passes in three years with the Pack - is expected to be pushed by 2012 seventh-rounder B.J. Coleman. Neither player is a good option behind Aaron Rodgers. The Packers would be in major trouble were Rodgers to go down. Rodgers has missed just two games in five years since replacing Brett Favre.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel projects backup QB Graham Harrell to be left off the Packers' final roster. Harrell might be able to save himself with a monster finish to the preseason, but for now he's looking like a third-stringer at best. The Journal-Sentinel projects "someone else" -- perhaps a Colt McCoy or Tarvaris Jackson -- to fill the backup spot behind Aaron Rodgers. Beat writer Rob Reischel projects seventh-round rookie B.J. Coleman to be left off the final roster, as well.

Packers GM Ted Thompson wants to see "continued improvement" and a "bounce back" game from backup QB Graham Harrell this week. Although coach Mike McCarthy placed much of the blame for Harrell's poor performance to date on the second-team offensive line, Thompson concedes that he does "fish from time to time" on exploratory trade calls. Even if Harrell graded out better than we might expect -- as McCarthy stated Tuesday -- it's hard to imagine a Super Bowl contender going forward with him as the No. 2 QB.

Packers backup QB Graham Harrell completed just 12-of-24 passes for 100 yards and two interceptions in Green Bay's second preseason game Saturday night against the Browns. He scrambled three times for 23 yards. Harrell didn't get a ton of help from his teammates, but he also seemed out of his league going against Browns second-team defenders. Harrell possesses a weak arm and becomes clearly uncomfortable when pressured, diminishing his productivity. We suspect the Packers played Harrell so much in this game to determine whether he can be Aaron Rodgers' primary 2012 backup. If so, Harrell flunked this audition.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel suggests that the Packers will go searching for a veteran backup quarterback if Graham Harrell "flops" in camp. Harrell went undrafted in 2009 because he lacked velocity and arm strength. Coach Mike McCarthy insists he's throwing with more power than ever, but Harrell has attempted zero career NFL passes and struggled last preseason. "This is clearly his best opportunity of his professional career," said McCarthy of Harrell. "He's getting better. It's right there for him as far as being the No. 2."
