Keenan Lewis converted $4.5 million of his base salary over the next two seasons into bonuses.

Lewis' new four-year deal still runs through 2017, and includes a $4.4 million signing bonus. His $3.3 million 2014 salary has been slashed to $1.1 million, with his $4.1 million 2015 number cut to $1.8 million. The rest of the missing money will be paid out in future roster bonuses.

Per ESPN's Mike Triplett, the deal saves a "little cap space this year." Lewis is coming off a solid year, so it's highly unlikely he's agreed to a pay cut. More than likely, some of his $3.3 million base salary has been pushed down the road in the form of a bonus.

The Saints declined to update the status of CB Keenan Lewis (head) Sunday.

Lewis' injury nearly cost the Saints a win at Philadelphia on Saturday night. Before he exited with a likely concussion, DeSean Jackson had zero catches. After he left, Jackson promptly put a 40-yard catch on Corey White and later drew a 40-yard pass interference call on White. Lewis was a legit shutdown corner during his first season in New Orleans.

Saints CB Keenan Lewis exited Saturday's Wild Card game against the Eagles with a head injury and is doubtful to return.

He's being evaluated for a possible concussion. Lewis led with the crown of his helmet on a hit to Jason Avant in the third quarter and had to be helped off the field. He was playing shutdown coverage on DeSean Jackson before exiting, holding him to zero catches on one target. Rod Sweeting is in the game at right cornerback.

Lewis went down midway through the first half, and wasn't spotted on New Orleans' first defensive possession of the third quarter. Patrick Robinson is filling in. Lewis appeared like he might just be cramping, but he'd likely already be back by now were that the case.

Lewis was hospitalized overnight on Monday due to some stomach pains. It turned out to be nothing. The Saints' new $26 million corner is ready to help turn around a pass defense that ranked 31st in the league last year.

Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Lewis' condition "(isn't) serious," and he could return to practice as early as Wednesday. The Saints got little more than a scare with a player they are hoping will help turn around their truly dreadful pass defense.
