Sanchez was handed a four-game PED ban during the offseason and didn't sign with a team until the Redskins lost Alex Smith to a broken fibula in mid-November. The 32-year-old was pressed into action when Colt McCoy (leg) joined Smith on the injured list, but it didn't take long for the team to turn to Josh Johnson instead. Given his putrid performance, Sanchez may have a tough time finding backup work for 2019.

Sanchez won't be the Redskins' starting quarterback Week 15 in Jacksonville, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports.

During Sunday's 40-16 loss, the Redskins offense was putrid under the direction of Sanchez, compiling just 19 yards on 10 drives. With 5:31 remaining in the third quarter, he was pulled in favor of Josh Johnson, and the team rallied for all of its points on the day. Sanchez finished just six for 14 for 38 yards and two interceptions while getting sacked five times. After the game, coach Jay Gruden called Johnson the starting QB for Week 15, which could stand for the rest of the season.

Sanchez replaced the injured Colt McCoy (lower leg) during the second quarter and completed 13 of 21 passes for 100 yards and an interception while finishing Monday night's 28-13 loss to the Eagles.

Sanchez was forced into the action after McCoy went down early and was unable to return. Considering Sanchez only joined the Redskins two weeks ago, hadn't thrown a pass in an NFL game in two years, and found himself in predictable passing situations during the second half, it's not surprising he struggled to make much of an impact. However, with McCoy being diagnosed with a season-ending fracture right fibula, which comes after original starter Alex Smith broke his leg as well, Sanchez suddenly finds himself as Washington's top option under center. The team will surely add another quarterback ahead of Week 14's game against the Giants, but it appears Sanchez should start that contest, boosting his fantasy value in the process. Given his lack of familiarity with team's scheme, though, it would be wise to really temper expectations of the veteran.

The NFL handed Sanchez a four-game suspension for a violation of the policy on performance-enhancing substances, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

Sanchez hasn't been called upon to perform since two appearances for the Cowboys in 2016 and hasn't been a regular starter since the second half of the 2014 season with the Eagles. Having said that, he still served as the Bears' third-string QB last year, so he holds a certain sway among NFL front offices. While he'll miss the first quarter of the upcoming campaign, it won't surprise if he latches onto a roster somewhere in the coming months.

Sanchez didn't take a snap with the Bears in 2017 and will enter the free agent market.

Sanchez has been in the league seven years, but has attempted just 109 passes over the last three campaigns as a backup. He'll likely latch on as a second-stringer somewhere and he's unlikely to be a fantasy option unless he finds his way into the starting lineup.
