Dunlap was released by the Chargers on Monday, FOX Sports' Peter Schrager reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dunlap's release comes after San Diego signed fellow offensive tackle Russell Okung to a lucrative five-year contract last week. Considering Dunlap was due close to $7 million overall this season, and is also facing a pending legal situation, Okung's signing all but sealed his release. While he and the Chargers parting ways is hardly surprising, Dunlap should still garner interest on the open market as a veteran protector.

Dunlap is expected to be released following the addition of Russell Okung, Michael Gehlken reported on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
With a contract slated at $5.25 million this year and additional roster bonuses pushing that figure closer to $7 million, it never made sense for the Chargers to keep Dunlap around, given his inconsistent play and potential legal issues. While the move hasn't been announced yet, expect the next shoe to drop in the Chargers' offseason plans soon.

Dunlap was arrested in Nashville on Thursday night and charged with violating an order of protection, WKRN Nashville reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dunlap's girlfriend allegedly asked him if he wanted to gather some clothes from her residence before he left for San Diego to train this offseason, and after Dunlap arrived to do so, he violated terms of a protective order that meant the two couldn't come in contact. According to a statement released by Dunlap's attorney after his client was bailed out of jail, the incident was a misunderstanding of that order, and a favorable resolution is expected to be reached. A Nashville native, Dunlap is slated to earn $5.75 million during the 2017 season, which is a figure the Chargers are anticipated to try and restructure this offseason, or release Dunlap to free cap space altogether, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
