Panthers DL/OLB Antwan Applewhite (knee) has been ruled out for Week 4 against the Falcons. Apllewhite, a Ron Rivera favorite, is a valuable special teamer, but he sometimes works as a situational pass rusher opposite Charles Johnson. His value to the Panthers is in the locker room.

Panthers re-signed OLB Antwan Applewhite. A favorite of coach Ron Rivera, Applewhite gets high marks for special teams prowess and locker room presence. He's also flashed pass rushing ability going back to his early career with the Chargers. Applewhite will be a backup in 2012.

The Charlotte Observer lists Antwan Applewhite and Jordan Senn as high priority free agents for the Panthers. Applewhite has a history with coach Ron Rivera in San Diego and can play both linebacker and defensive end. Senn finished fourth on the team with 73 tackles but is severly undersized and not likely to covet much attention on the open market.
