Chiefs ILB Brandon Siler practiced Tuesday for the first time since undergoing Achilles surgery last August. Siler blew out his Achilles on the final play of practice last August. Expected to compete for Jovan Belcher's starting job last summer, Siler will battle for a roster spot as a special teamer and reserve this year.

Chiefs signed ILB Brandon Siler (injured reserve, Achilles) to a one-year contract extension. Signed in July, Siler didn't play a down this season after tearing his Achilles' tendon in training camp. He was expected to see a healthy dose of snaps alongside Derrick Johnson. A seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2007, Siler made 12 starts in 58 career games before joining the Chiefs, notching 161 tackles and three sacks. Still only 26, Siler has a good shot at getting healthy enough to make the Chiefs' 2012 roster.

Chiefs ILB Brandon Siler is out for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon. Siler tore the Achilles' in the Chiefs' second preseason game and already underwent surgery. The 25-year-old was a value pickup to open training camp, and likely would have pushed Jovan Belcher for a starting job during the season. Belcher is now locked in, and Demorrio Williams is the No. 3 inside backer.

Chiefs signed ILB Brandon Siler, formerly of the Chargers. Just 25 years old, Siler made 12 starts over the past two seasons in San Diego, racking up 111 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions. Per Pro Football Focus' ratings, Siler graded out positively as both an inside pass rusher and cover 'backer last year. He also had seven special teams tackles in 2010 and should push for snaps immediately next to Derrick Johnson.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune expects the Chargers to allow ILB Brandon Siler to leave in free agency. Siler has flashed as a run defender, but he doesn't seem to be a favorite of the organizational higher-ups. Still just 25, the 2007 seventh-round pick should find work as a rotational inside 'backer and special teamer elsewhere.
