Ex-Bears WR Sam Hurd is nearing a plea deal in his federal drug trial. "A plea of guilty is in the works," Hurd's attorney said. Hurd's trial is currently set to begin Monday in Dallas. Were Hurd to actually go to trial and get convicted, he'd be facing 10 years to life in prison, as well as a $10 million fine. Hurd turns 28 in two weeks.

Ex-Bears WR Sam Hurd's federal drug-trafficking case has been delayed until August. Hurd's trial had been set to begin April 2. Faced with conspiracy and drug possession charges, Hurd has insisted he's not guilty, and plans to advance "several different theories" to prove his innocence. It's a fact, not a theory, that Hurd's NFL career is over.

Ex-Bears WR Sam Hurd has changed attorneys in his federal drug-trafficking case. Apparently Hurd's original lawyers were no longer so sure about the "several different theories" he planned to use to prove his innocence. Hurd will now be represented by two former U.S. attorneys. Facing conspiracy and drug possession charges, he still plans to plead not guilty.

Ex-Bears WR Sam Hurd plans to fight federal drug conspiracy and possession charges at his Jan. 25th arraignment. Hurd will enter pleas of not guilty based "on several different theories," said his attorney. "We look forward to presenting a vigorous defense." The conspiracy charge carries a penalty of 10 years to life in prison and a $10 million fine. If convicted on the possession charge, Hurd could be looking at five to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine.

Ex-Bears WR Sam Hurd was indicted Wednesday on federal drug possession and conspiracy charges stemming from an alleged "drug-dealing network." Hurd is free on $100,000 bond, but he won't be for long. He faces up to ten years to life in prison if convicted of the conspiracy charge, and up to 40 years of possession. Hurd was arrested on December 14 in Chicago after allegedly attempting to buy a kilo of cocaine from an undercover cop. After walking out of a Chicago steakhouse with the kilo, Hurd was arrested. There's no chance we'll see the 26-year-old special teamer back in the NFL.

Through his attorney, former Bears WR Sam Hurd has vehemently denied he was selling drugs to other NFL players. "It is patently and totally false," were the words of Hurd's attorney Brent Greenfield Friday. "It just didn't happen." Through a spokesman, the NFL has said it is "not aware" of Hurd being accused of supplying drugs to other players.

Bears waived WR Sam Hurd. Hurd's football career is likely over after he was busted for running Chicago's largest drug ring. The story isn't over, though, after a Chicago Sun Times report claimed that "dozens" of NFL players had ties to Hurd's dealings. Hurd may end up exposing those players in exchange for less prison time.

According to a report from 670 The Score in Chicago, Bears WR Sam Hurd supplied drugs to NFL players numbering in the "double digits." Football was apparently a side job for Hurd, who was one of the top drug dealers in Chicago. His operation makes Nate Newton's 213 pounds of marijuana look small-time. Doing roughly $2 million worth of business every month, Hurd was looking to buy "5 to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week for distribution in the Chicago area." We have to assume extended prison is on the horizon, and Hurd's football career is over.
