ESPN's Adam Caplan reports free agent OG Mike Brisiel has drawn interest from the Bears and Dolphins since his April release by the Raiders. Brisiel, 31, was presumably considered by Miami after Mike Pouncey's hip surgery; the Fins signed Daryn Colledge instead. Brisiel is a zone-blocking guard who struggled in Oakland last season, but could be a viable reserve.

Raiders released OG Mike Brisiel. Brisiel started 30 games over the past two seasons, but was out of a job after the Raiders signed Austin Howard to man right guard. Brisiel was ticketed to "compete" with Kevin Boothe and Khalif Barnes on the left side, but was always a realistic candidate for release. The move creates $1.38 million in cap space, but leaves behind $3.93 million in dead money. Now 31, Brisiel would reportedly like to continue his playing career, but has struggled mightily the past two seasons.

Speaking Tuesday, Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie confirmed Mike Brisiel will have to compete for a starting job in 2014. With new signee Austin Howard penciled in at right guard, Brisiel will compete with Kevin Boothe and Khalif Barnes on the left side. According to McKenzie, the Raiders would like the 31-year-old Brisiel to "get bigger." There's still a strong chance Brisiel is ultimately released.

ESPN Raiders reporter Paul Gutierrez thinks there's a strong chance RG Mike Brisiel retires. Brisiel is just 31 years old (next month) but battled several nagging injuries last season, even though he started 15 games. He just wrapped up the second season of a five-year, $20 million contract which has proven to be one of GM Reggie McKenzie's several personnel mistakes. The Raiders can save $1.38 million against the cap by cutting Brisiel. He's not a great fit in Oakland.

Raiders RG Mike Brisiel "lost control of blocks on several occasions" in the Friday's preseason game. Brisiel struggled mightily in 2012, but continues to receive the majority of playing time with the first-team offense. At just 300 pounds, he remains a questionable fit in Oakland's power-blocking scheme. The Raiders best offensive line may ultimately consist of moving Khalif Barnes to guard, and starting Alex Barron at right tackle.

Raiders RG Mike Brisiel has been getting most of the first-team reps in OTAs. Brisiel signed a five-year deal last year, but he was a big-time bust in his first season with the Silver and Black. At just 300 pounds, he's also an extremely poor fit for the Raiders' new power-blocking scheme. Beat writer Steve Corkran opines that the left guard spot is the only one up for competition on Oakland's offensive line. We wouldn't be surprised if Lucas Nix upstaged Brisiel at some point.

The agent for Raiders RG Mike Brisiel clarified that his client lost no money upon restructuring his contract. Initially believed to have taken a pay cut, Brisiel will instead receive a guaranteed roster bonus of $3 million next week in exchange for slashing his salary from $4.35 million to $1.35 million. The $3 million payment will be treated like a signing bonus and prorated over the contract's life, lowering Brisiel's 2013 salary cap charge but increasing his cap number in future years.

The Raiders have worked out a restructured contract with RG Mike Brisiel, dropping his 2013 salary from $4.35 million to $1.35 million. It sounds like a true pay cut as opposed to a salary cap move. Brisiel was signed specifically to play guard in former Raiders OC Greg Knapp's zone-blocking system. The zone scheme has since been scrapped, and Brisiel may return as a backup only in 2013. He would've been released without the restructuring.

Raiders RG Mike Brisiel underwent "major" ankle surgery after the season. It sounds like a procedure that could sideline Brisiel until training camp. Signed away from the Texans last offseason as a zone-blocking guard, Brisiel's future is up in the air as the Raiders plan to install a power-running offense in 2013. Brisiel, who turns 30 in March, is owed a $4.35 million base salary.
