Panthers re-signed QB Derek Anderson.
Anderson, 31 in June, has attempted just four passes since the 2010 season. He'll be back to hold the clipboard as Cam Newton's backup. Newton has yet to miss a start.

Sources tell the Charlotte Observer that free agent QB Derek Anderson is expected to re-sign with the Panthers.
There was chatter that Anderson would be following Rob Chudzinski back to Cleveland, where DA somehow made a Pro Bowl in 2007. Instead, he'll stick with the Panthers as Cam Newton's backup. Anderson has reportedly "drawn praise for his attitude" in Carolina's quarterback room.

The Browns have reportedly been in contact with impending free agent Derek Anderson about re-joining Rob Chudzinski in Cleveland.
If so, it would be a violation of the league's tampering rules because free agency hasn't begun. Anderson hinted on his Facebook page that a deal was already in the works to return to Cleveland as a backup QB. "Looks like it is time to make a return to a familiar place for some unfinished business," said Anderson. "I'd be honored to return to Cleveland to play football if the fans would have me."

Derek Anderson is listed as the Panthers' No. 2 quarterback on their latest depth chart, ahead of Jimmy Clausen.
Anderson overtook Clausen by going 11-of-19 for 192 yards and a touchdown in the exhibition finale. Clausen labored all preseason, finishing with a 52.2 completion percentage on 46 attempts, a 5.7 YPA, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Anderson is also a favorite of new Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski.

Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen have received almost all of the camp reps at quarterback.
Coach Ron Rivera insisted Derek Anderson would compete for the starting job, but his actions tell a different story. Newton and Clausen will continue to rotate first-teams snaps, leaving Anderson as the odd man out. John Skelton conceded that Anderson wasn't much of a mentor in Arizona last season, so there's really no reason to keep him on the roster as a third QB.

The Oregonian is reporting that the Panthers have signed free agent QB Derek Anderson.
If so, "Cam Newton's chances of starting just went way up," as Rotoworld's Chris Wesseling put it. Anderson has familiarity with new Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski, under whom "D.A." had his career year back in 2007. Anderson's confidence has been shot since a concussion-filled 2008 season, however, and his accuracy was never NFL-caliber. For the future of the Panthers, we don't like the signing one bit. A game-managing veteran would have been far more preferable, even if that kind of a player possesses no upside.

The Cardinals will reportedly release QB Derek Anderson.
Anderson stands as a bipedal monument to short-sightedness and a lack of scouting acumen in Arizona. A career 52.6 percent passer, a scattershot Anderson held the offense hostage early in the season before getting pulled for undrafted rookie Max Hall. Anderson was due to earn just over $4 million. He will be lucky to collect half of that in a pure backup role this year.
