The Rams will release Wells, ESPN.com reports. The team will also release tackle Jake Long, with the moves set to save the Rams $12 million against their 2015 salary cap in advance of free agency. The report further notes that with Joe Barksdale and Davin Joseph slated to become free agents, the Rams could have as many as three new starters on their offensive line this coming season.

Wells (elbow) is listed as active Sunday at San Francisco, Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site reports. The news is positive for the center-quarterback exchange with Austin Davis, as well as the rotating cast of lead backs.

Wells (elbow) is probable for Sunday's game against San Francisco. Wells' elbow injury turned out to be a non-issue, which is good news for Austin Davis and the St. Louis backfield.

Wells could not complete Sunday's 34-7 loss to Kansas City after suffering an elbow injury, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It's difficult to say how long Wells will be out, but the Rams' offensive line is suddenly in shambles with Wells, Rodger Saffold and Chris Long injured Sunday.

Rams C Scott Wells has restructured his contract. Entering the third year of a four-year deal, Wells' 2014 base salary has been reduced from $5.5 million to $1 million. He'll get some of that money back in the form of a $1.65 million roster bonus and $850,000 in per-game roster bonuses. The restructure is a firm sign the Rams have penciled Wells in as their starting center for one more year before Barrett Jones takes over.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports "indications are that" the Rams will retain C Scott Wells for the 2014 season. Wells is set to count $6.5 million against the cap, and the Rams could save $4.5 million by releasing him. But with none of the Rams' five offensive line positions settled, it would be wise to keep the 33-year-old veteran around as a stabilizing presence. Wells fractured his fibula in December but will be fine for camp.

Rams C Scott Wells is in danger of being a salary cap casualty. St. Louis' four-year, $24 million deal with Wells in 2012 has proven a predictable bust, as Wells has been oft-injured and struggled when healthy, particularly as a run blocker. Wells turned 33 three days ago and is owed a $5.5 million base salary for 2014. His 2013 season ended on injured reserve with a fractured fibula. The Rams do not have a viable in-house replacement.

Rams placed C Scott Wells on injured reserve with a fractured fibula, ending his season. Wells broke his leg in Week 13. He was given a 3-4 week timetable for recovery. The Rams are shutting him down after being officially eliminated from the playoffs last week. Tim Barnes will handle center duties. OG Brandon Washington was promoted from the practice squad to take Wells' roster spot.

Rams C Scott Wells fractured his fibula in the first half of Sunday's game against the 49ers and will likely miss the rest of the season. Wells was initially ruled out with an ankle injury. Tim Barnes replaced him to start the second half and will handle the duties for the season's remainder. Wells, 33 next month, started the first 12 games this season, but he'll end up missing 13-of-32 games since signing a four-year, $24 million contract two offseasons ago. He and his $5.5 million salary are candidates to be released in March.

The Rams' offensive line served up 26 sacks over the first ten games last year, but just nine in the six contests after C Scott Wells' return to the lineup. Wells battled numerous injuries in '12 and had his knee scoped in January. He's fully participating in camp. "I feel great now and I'm really excited about this season," he said. From left to right, St. Louis' starting line looks like this: LT Jake Long, LT Chris Williams, C Wells, RG Harvey Dahl, RT Rodger Saffold.
