Impending free agent DE Dave Ball acknowledged that his career may be over due to recurring concussions. Ball nearly retired in November of 2011 due to concussions. He suffered yet another in training camp and didn't play a down in 2012. 32-year-old Ball is not under contract for 2013 and conceded the Titans won't be re-signing him.

Titans placed DE Dave Ball on injured reserve with a concussion, ending his season. This could be it for Ball, who nearly retired last November thanks to his lengthy concussion history. His latest concussion came in the first week of camp, and he never returned to practice. If the 2004 fifth-round pick's career is indeed through, he'll go out with 123 tackles and 15.5 sacks across 72 games.

The Titans would like to limit recently re-signed DE Dave Ball to 30-35 snaps per game in 2012. "(Coach Mike Munchak) kind of told me he wanted me to play less snaps and be more effective by doing that," Ball said. "So I would be fresher the whole year and be more effective. That's cool with me." Averaging 47.4 snaps across 14 games, Ball notched 55 tackles and four sacks last season, but graded out as one of the league's poorer 4-3 ends by Pro Football Focus.

Titans re-signed DE Dave Ball to a one-year contract. Ball didn't attract much interest on the open market after concussion issues led him to contemplate retirement at mid-season in 2011. The 31-year-old will return as a situational pass rusher after recording 36 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles last season.

The Titans remain in contact with free agent DE Dave Ball, who would like to return to Tennessee. The situational pass rusher is supposedly "considering other teams," but hasn't lined up any visits since the beginning of free agency. Unless Ball's market unexpectedly heats up, he'll likely be returning to Tennessee on a bargain-basement deal.

The player rep for free agent DE Dave Ball "isn't sure" if the Titans will make Ball an offer before the beginning of free agency on Tuesday. Ball's rep shouldn't hold his breath. Ball has long been expected to hit the open market, and will only be back in Tennessee if he fits the Titans' budget. Despite struggling through another concussion last season, Ball managed to tally 36 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles as a situational pass rusher.

Free agent DE Dave Ball insists his concussion issues are behind him. "After I was able to play the rest of the season after those concussion issues, and was able to be fine, (retirement isn't) something I thought about much more," Ball said. "I just know now I am feeling good, feeling healthy, and feeling like I am ready to contribute again somewhere." Although he hopes to re-sign with the Titans, Ball expects to reach the open market.
