USA Today reports the Browns "badly wanted" to sign free agent ILB Bart Scott, but his toe is "still messed up." Scott played with a torn toe ligament in 2012. Playing with the injury led to further complications which led to surgery. Scott was out of the league all last season, despite drawing heavy interest from the Chiefs. He'll turn 34 in August. New Browns coach Mike Pettine coached Scott for 11 seasons in Baltimore and New York.

Free agent ILB Bart Scott has accepted a job with CBS. ESPN reported last week Scott was close to choosing a new team, but he must not have liked the offers. Scott hasn't made a retirement announcement, so it's unclear if he's closing the door on his playing career. Recovering from toe surgery, Scott made no known visits after being released by the Jets.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent ILB Bart Scott is drawing interest, and expected to choose a team this week. It's the first we've heard of Scott since February. Scott underwent toe surgery in January. He was supposed to be 100 percent by May, but we're guessing that didn't happen considering how late developing his "market" is. Scott would provide depth as an early-down banger.

Free agent ILB Bart Scott (toe surgery) expects to be healthy by May, and is "drawing interest from a few teams." ESPN New York considers Buffalo, Kansas City and Baltimore potential landing spots. Being less than 100 percent for the start of free agency could cost Scott some money, but he should be able to find a new home for 2013.

Jets ILB Bart Scott will meet with the team on Thursday regarding a possible pay-cut. Scott wasn't part of the Jets' initial cap purge on Tuesday, but will join Calvin Pace and company on the street soon enough if he isn't willing to dramatically slash his scheduled $6.9 million salary. Releasing Scott would free up roughly $8 million in cap space, so it's possible no amount of haggling will save his job. Scott wasn't a liability in 2012, but is no longer an impact player.

The Jets can clear $27.7 million in cap space by releasing ILB Bart Scott, OLB Calvin Pace and OT Jason Smith. Beat writer Manish Mehta considers it a matter of "when," not if, they make the moves. This is surely part of the salary-cap masterplan deposed GM Mike Tannenbaum has been referring to in interviews. Mehta expects 2012 third-rounder Demario Davis to take Scott's place in the starting lineup. S Eric Smith is also a candidate for release.

Jets ILB Bart Scott is undergoing surgery to repair a hyperextended big toe on Friday. Scott battled the injury since midseason, snapping his consecutive games played streak at 119. Scott only missed the one game, but he finished with an eight-year low in tackles (60) and wasn't an impact player. Having turned 32 in August, Scott indicated in December that he'd take a pay cut to stay with the Jets.

Bart Scott is willing to accept a paycut to stay with the Jets in 2013. The declining 32-year-old doesn't have much of a choice. He has no prayer of seeing his scheduled $6.9 million salary next season. The most likely course of action is that the Jets will release Scott and consider bringing him back at a bargain-basement price if he doesn't sign elsewhere.
