Former Ravens, Bears, and Colts S Tom Zbikowski has retired from football. He'll begin training for the Chicago Fire Department next month. Only 28, Zbikowski revealed he recently lost his love for football and reported to Bears camp this summer out of shape. A heavy drinker, Zbikowski estimates he played at least 12 of his 64 career games with a "massive hangover." "I'm the only guy who can drink six beers, then spar 10 rounds on the same day," he said.

NFL suspended free agent S Tom Zbikowski four weeks. The reason wasn't specified, but four games is usually the result of a first-time performance-enhancing drugs violation. Zbikowski started 11 games for the Colts last season. Free agent CB Brandon McDonald was also suspended two games.

The Chicago Tribune doesn't expect S Tom Zbikowski to make the Bears. Zbikowski was signed to a one-year deal, a year after starting 11 games for the Colts. He's a quality special teams player but was always miscast as a starting NFL safety. Zbikowski has fallen all the way to the fourth-team defense.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears are expected to sign free agent S Tom Zbikowski. Zbikowski was released by the Colts last week after Indianapolis inked LaRon Landry as his replacement. Zbikowski is from the Chicago area, and he has 25 career starts under his belt. He recorded 38 tackles, five pass breakups, and an interception last season. Zbikowski also brings value as a special teams player.

Colts released S Tom Zbikowski. 28-year-old Zbikowski was owed a $1.5 million base salary. His release saves the Colts just over $1 million versus the cap, not that they needed the room. In 11 starts last year, Zbikowski managed 38 tackles, one interception, and one sack. Assuming he doesn't take up boxing full time, Zbikowski should be able to latch on elsewhere as a third safety and special teams gunner.

Colts FS Tom Zbikowski (knee) expects to play in Sunday's Wild Card matchup with the Ravens. Zbikowski missed the last five games of the regular season with a knee injury, but returned to practice this week and told reporters he'll play despite being listed as questionable. With Zbikowski finally healthy, the Colts will no longer be stuck with Joe Lefeged in their starting lineup. DE Cory Redding (probable, quad) is also expected to return after sitting out the Week 17 finale.
