Tim Tebow has cleared waivers and is now a free agent. Having likely exhausted his final shot with old pal Josh McDaniels, Tebow's NFL future looks bleaker than ever. He turned 26 years old last month. To get another chance, Tebow is going to have to be amenable to a position change.

WGR 550 Buffalo reports the Bills have "zero interest" in free agent Tim Tebow. The Tebow-Bills connection made some sense. Buffalo only has two quarterbacks on the roster -- both are rookies and one is injured -- and the Bills play the Patriots in Week 1. Tebow is subject to waivers. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora confirms the Bills haven't placed a claim on either Tebow or injured ex-Jets QB Greg McElroy. Buffalo will likely add a quarterback somehow.

Montreal Alouettes GM Jim Popp says he's never had a conversation with free agent Tim Tebow or his agent about joining the team. "[Tebow is] just one of the 35 names on the [negotiation] list," said Popp. "Really nothing to discuss unless he came to the CFL. Have never had a conversation with him or his agent." The Alouettes hold Tebow's rights should he head north to the CFL. We can't see him playing in the NFL this season.

No. 3 Patriots QB Tim Tebow didn't play in Thursday's regular season dress rehearsal. The Pats held Brian Hoyer out of last year's third preseason game before sending him packing at final cuts. Looking for patterns with iconoclastic coach Bill Belichick usually doesn't get you far, but Tebow's roster spot is certainly on thin ice.

ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that Tim Tebow's roster spot could depend on whether Rob Gronkowski (back) lands on reserve/PUP. If the Patriots place Gronkowski on the regular season PUP list, he won't count against the 53-man active roster for at least the first six weeks. That would give them some flexibility to keep a third quarterback like Tebow. Regardless, we suspect the roster spot would be better used on someone else. Through two preseason games, Tebow has gone 5-of-19 (26.3 percent) for 54 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. He can't run New England's offense and isn't working at any other positions.

Coach Bill Belichick said there's a "lot of competition out there" when asked about Tim Tebow's roster spot. Tebow got plenty of reps behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett in last week's preseason opener. He finished 4-of-12 for 55 yards, rushed four times for 31 yards and took three sacks that resulted in negative-23 yards. In other words, he's shown little progress as a passer. The Patriots have to decide if it's worth keeping Tebow as a developmental third quarterback -- they aren't using him at any other positions.

Tim Tebow has spent 99 percent of his time with the Patriots learning to play quarterback.

Tim Tebow was catching passes and lining up with running backs and receivers in addition to his quarterback reps at Patriots camp Friday. Coach Bill Belichick indicated Friday morning that Tebow wasn't locked into playing quarterback exclusively, and he could continue to see practice reps at tight end or H-back. Asked whether he's willing to play different positions, Tebow told reporters he'll do "whatever the coaches ask." The added versatility should only help Tebow's chances of making the 53-man roster.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to say whether Tim Tebow will be used exclusively at quarterback. With Rob Gronkowski sidelined, the Patriots haven't ruled out using Tebow at tight end or H-back. "I think we'll use Tim wherever is best for the team," Belichick said. "I know that's what he's committed to doing as well, whatever that is."
