Seahawks analyst Brock Huard is "willing to bet" Tarvaris Jackson will be asked to renegotiate his $4 million salary in August. Jackson took the majority of the starter's reps on Wednesday, but Huard continues to see a "maddeningly inconsistent" quarterback who "peaked in his third year in the league and has not been able to rise from that plateau." With Matt Flynn as the clubhouse QB leader, Huard suspects Jackson will get the "Leroy Hill/Sean Locklear/Marcus Trufant treatment: renegotiate, or else."

Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson did not attend this week's voluntary conditioning sessions. Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and DE Chris Clemons were also absent. Seahawks OTAs begin next week, and Jackson is widely believed to be on the roster bubble following the selection of Wilson and signing of Matt Flynn. Competition-oriented coach Pete Carroll will surely take note whenever Jackson misses any of this offseason's "voluntary" affairs.

SI.com's Peter King expects Tarvaris Jackson to be "either No. 3 or cut during camp" if rookie Russell Wilson plays well in preseason. As King notes, Jackson got 14 starts last season to show Seahawks brass he's the quarterback of the future, and "he didn't do that." Now due a $4M salary and not even assured of being second on the depth chart, Jackson should be available for trade as we speak. The most likely outcome has Matt Flynn starting Week 1, Wilson nipping at Flynn's heels, and T-Jack hitting the FA market.

Despite the additions of Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson, coach Pete Carroll insists Tarvaris Jackson will get every chance to keep the Seahawks starting quarterback job. Seattle gave Flynn $10 million guaranteed and used a second-day pick on Wilson, but Jackson doesn't lack for support on the coaching staff. Appearing on ESPN's NFL 32 Tuesday, Carroll predicted that Jackson is "really on the brink of becoming something special."

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reemphasized that he anticipates a "head-to-head" camp battle between Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson. Flynn is the obvious favorite, but the Seahawks will hang onto both signal callers until one leaps clearly ahead. Carroll also revealed that Seattle didn't have to do much courting to get Flynn to sign with them over Miami. "He went to see the Dolphins and after visiting them he called me the next morning early and said 'Hey Coach I want to come to Seattle,'" Carroll recalled. "It was kind of like a recruit calling me. He wanted to come."

Team sources tell the National Football Post they "wouldn't be surprised" if Tarvaris Jackson beat out Matt Flynn for the Seahawks' starting quarterback job.

Coach Pete Carroll said Sunday that Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson will compete for the Seahawks' quarterback job in training camp. Carroll emphasizes "competition" at every position, but there's little doubt that Flynn will enter camp as the favorite to win the job. Jackson has settled in as a backup-caliber quarterback, and the Seahawks are paying Flynn in excess of $6 million per year. Jackson's 2012 base salary is $4 million, none of it guaranteed. If Flynn outplays Jackson by a large margin in camp, a pink slip for T-Jack would save Seattle quite a bit of cap space.

Tarvaris Jackson did not require postseason surgery on his right pectoral injury. Jackson suffered the injury in Week 5 and was in and out of the lineup before starting the final nine games. He finished with a 14:13 TD-to-INT ratio, but managed under seven yards per pass attempt. Depending upon what Seattle does in free agency and the draft, Jackson may not be back in 2012. The 29-year-old is due a $4 million salary, which would be lofty for a backup.

Seahawks GM John Schneider insists he won't make a "panic" move at quarterback because "it can set the organization back." "That may disappoint fans, because they want to see an instant guy and have that instant success," Schneider said. "But really, you're better off continuing to build your team." Schneider's comments suggest the Seahawks will be reluctant to overpay for free agent Matt Flynn or reach for Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill at No. 12 overall.

Coach Pete Carroll clarified Tuesday that Tarvaris Jackson's starting job will be open to competition in 2012 even if he remains "the leader at the spot." "I'm hoping he'll grow with all of us, and we'll grow with him," Carroll said of Jackson entering his second season in Seattle. Though the Seahawks played too well for a shot at Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III, GM John Schneider may be interested in reconnecting with impending free agent Matt Flynn.
