The rookie fifth-round pick had some post-draft buzz surrounding him when the progress of James Robinson from last year's Achilles injury was still in question. However, Robinson's clean bill of health well in advance of Sunday's opener leaves him and Travis Etienne as the clear-cut top options in the backfield, while journeyman JaMycal Hasty will open the season as the No. 3 running back against the Commanders.

Conner rushed 11 times for 15 yards and caught two of three targets for minus-3 yards in Saturday's 28-12 preseason loss to Atlanta.

EDGE Analysis

Conner mustered just 12 scrimmage yards on 13 touches, showing that he's not ready to usurp much playing time from Travis Etienne or James Robinson (Achilles) when both are healthy. The Jaguars are expected to keep the rookie fifth-round pick on the roster, but Conner's impact will likely be limited primarily to special teams in his first NFL regular season.

With James Robinson (Achilles) and Travis Etienne (illness) not playing Thursday, Conner saw a solid amount of touches and did a serviceable job with the opportunity. The rookie fifth-round pick did find running room at a premium, but efficiency isn't really a concern with a player who averaged an impressive 5.2 yards per carry over 34 games in three college seasons at Ole Miss. Although Etienne is expected to suit up for the Jaguars' Aug. 12 exhibition contest against the Browns, Conner should still see his fair share of touches as that game unfolds.
