Shields (illness) is active for Sunday's game versus the Saints, Rich Hammond of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields hasn't played more than 26 defensive snaps in any of the last four weeks, making four tackles and breaking up a pass in that span. It's likely the trend continues with Nickell Robey-Coleman and Marcus Peters taking a majority of the snaps at corner.

Shields (illness) arrived in New Orleans on Saturday and could play Sunday versus the Saints, Steve Wyche of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields didn't practice Thursday or Friday and didn't travel with the team, but the fact he's in New Orleans now is a reason for optimism. He's not used in a full-time role often and mainly seen as a nickel corner, but he'll aid the Rams' secondary against a high-caliber Saints offense if he can go. If not, expect Nickell Robey-Coleman and Troy Hill to see upticks in defensive snaps.

Shields (illness) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints.
EDGE Analysis
Shields was held out of New Orleans' practice Thursday and Friday after coming down with an illness, and his Week 9 status appears to legitimately be in question. The starting cornerback's availability could be a game-time decision, and if Shields were to miss any time expect Nickell Robey-Coleman to enter the starting lineup.

Shields played 37 of 52 defensive snaps and recorded four tackles (three solo) and a pass defense during Sunday's 35-23 win over the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
With Marcus Peters (lower leg) and Aqib Talib (ankle) both exiting Sunday's contest, Shields led Los Angeles cornerbacks in defensive snaps. Tory Hill, Nickell Robey-Coleman and Shields all project to see an uptick in playing time if Peters and Talib miss time. However, it's definitely worth noting that it was Shields who saw the largest boost in snaps. He's probably still a risky fantasy option in most settings for now, though.

Shields recorded one tackle, a pass defensed and an interception across 11 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Shields didn't see a ton of action Sunday but made the most of his opportunities, recording his first interception since 2015. The veteran cornerback got snaps with the game out of hand after not receiving a single defensive rep in Week 1. However, after the impressive interception which he returned 22 yards, Shields could be inclined to see some more regular playing time in the future.

Shields (concussion/suspension) practiced in full pads Sunday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields hasn't put on the pads in live drills since suffering a severe concussion early on during the 2016 season. However, it now seems the cornerback is back to normal, flashing his trademark speed in training camp. If he can stay free of any setbacks throughout the rest of the summer, Shields should combine with fellow offseason acquisitions Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib to give the Rams one of the best groups of cornerbacks in the league.

Shields (suspension/concussion) was a participant in Wednesday's OTA session, displaying his speed while covering Brandin Cooks, the Rams' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields appears to be competing as if his last concussion -- the fifth of his career -- is finally behind him. However, OTAs don't have the full contact impact of having full pads on, so it remains to be seen whether or not he's ready for that. Even if he does clear all of the hurdles, Shields will be forced to sit out the first two games of the 2018 season due to a suspension stemming from a drug charge in January of 2017.

Shields signed with the Rams on Thursday, Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields has usually been very effective when on the field over the course of his career, collecting 18 interceptions over his six active seasons, but has trouble staying healthy. He suffered the fourth career known concussion of his career in the first game of the 2016 season and has not played since. As is the case, this move is a risky one for Los Angeles, with another concussion possibly ending Shields' career, but with the defensive backfield already solidified with new acquisitions Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, the Rams found the risk was worth taking.

Shields (suspension) is expected to return to the NFL, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields has been sidelined since sustaining the fifth known concussion of his career Week 1 of the 2016 season. In the interim, he was charged with marijuana possession in January of 2017 and subsequently levied a two-game suspension by the NFL, which he'll be subject to if he latches on with an organization. According to Schefter, Shields will make his first visit with the Browns this week.

Shields (suspension) said he's no longer experiencing headaches and believes he'll generate interest on the free-agent market this spring, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "I think I'm back to my normal self. I can just take one day at a time and try to keep conditioning to get myself ready for whatever, March or April, whatever team picks me up so I can be ready to go," Shields explained.
EDGE Analysis
Shields dealt with chronic headaches in the aftermath of his fifth documented concussion he suffered in Week 1 of the 2016 season. While he recently took to social media to show that he's progressed to the point where he can move around without experiencing any concussion symptoms, there's still no word that Shields has officially been cleared to return to the field. However, there are a number of teams around the league that could likely benefit from the 2014 Pro-Bowler's services and it's possible one of them could take a gamble on the 30-year-old cornerback. With that said, Shields is facing a two-game suspension from the league regardless of which organization he may land with.
