Hillman was officially cut by the Cowboys on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given the Cowboys' depth at the running back position, it would have taken an impressive camp from Hillman for him to latch on with the team beyond the preseason. That didn't happen, so he's now free to find a job with another club.

Hillman had one carry for no gain and two catches for 15 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.
EDGE Analysis
Hillman served as the No. 4 running back, playing much of the fourth quarter. He seems to be competing with Rod Smith for the third spot on the depth chart while Ezekiel Elliott is suspended. Smith also had a quiet night, gaining two yards on one carry and five yards on one reception. With Elliott appealing his suspension, there's no guarantee either Hillman or Smith makes the Week 1 roster.

Hillman gained five yards on six carries and didn't draw any targets in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
In addition to the poor stat line, Hillman worked behind Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris and Rod Smith, suggesting the Cowboys' recent addition is a long shot to make the roster. While he still has more time to prove himself during camp and the preseason, Hillman seems to be No. 5 in the backfield pecking order right now.

Hillman is set to sign with the Cowboys, the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
At first glance, it's fair to wonder if the addition of Hillman is related to concerns regarding Ezekiel Elliott's early-season availability, but the report suggests that the move is more tied to the offseason departure of pass-catching back Lance Dunbar, as well as a hamstring injury reserve RB Jahad Thomas is dealing with.

Hillman is expected to sign with the Cowboys, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team's interest in signing Hillman hints at concern regarding a possible suspension for Ezekiel Elliott, though Hillman should still have a shot to make the 53-man roster even if Elliott doesn't miss time, as the Cowboys may want a cheaper alternative to Alfred Morris for the No. 3 RB job. Hillman had 41 carries for 131 yards in eight games with the Vikings and Chargers last season, after taking 207 carries for 863 yards and seven touchdowns for the Broncos in 2015.

The Cowboys brought Hillman in for a workout this week, ESPN's Field Yates reports.
EDGE Analysis
Along with Hillman, the Cowboys gave former Jaguars running back Denard Robinson a tryout too as it seems Dallas management is seriously bracing for the possibility of an Ezekiel Elliott suspension. A 2012 third-round pick of the Broncos, Hillman split time last season with the Chargers and Vikings, finishing the year with 131 rushing yards on 41 carries (3.19 YPC).

Hillman finished the season with 131 rushing yards and 93 receiving yards playing parts of the year with the Vikings and the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Hillman joined the Chargers late in the season and immediately became a factor following injuries to Melvin Gordon (hip/knee) and Kenneth Farrow (shoulder). While the journeyman running back likely doesn't factor into the organization's long-term plans given the emergence of Gordon, Hillman played well enough through the final few weeks to at least warrant interest from other teams during the offseason. There's even a possibility Hillman could return to the Chargers, given that both Branden Oliver and Danny Woodhead are unrestricted free agents this offseason, but even a return to his current team would not necessarily guarantee fantasy relevance next year.

Hillman nabbed three of six targets for 50 yards and added 41 yards on seven carries in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs.
EDGE Analysis
Hillman did a bunch of damage on chunk plays on Sunday, three of his 10 touches going for 15 yards or more. The pint-sized speedster has floated around Minnesota and San Diego this season, but Sunday served as a reminder that he was talented enough to lead Denver in rushing last season. His future with the Chargers is likely tied to the future of his former offensive coordinator in Denver, San Diego head coach Mike McCoy.

With Melvin Gordon (knee/hip) ruled out, Hillman figures to get the start Sunday against the Chiefs.
EDGE Analysis
Hillman has played sparingly since joining the Chargers, but the veteran running back will get plenty of opportunities Sunday with Gordon and Kenneth Farrow (shoulder) done for the season. While there's a chance the Chargers opt to use former Giants' running back Andre Williams as an early-down back, Hillman had been seeing time in passing downs already and appears to have a better grasp of the playbook, given that Williams had been toiling away on the Chargers' practice squad prior to his call-up this week. Against a mediocre Chiefs' run defense, Hillman figures to put up enough numbers for a desperate owner to justify using in a standard league.

With Melvin Gordon (hip/knee) day-to-day and Kenneth Farrow on IR, Hillman could be in for an expanded role in Sunday's season finale against the Chiefs.
EDGE Analysis
Hillman carried nine times for just six yards, and did not catch a pass in Saturday's loss to the Browns, but if Gordon can't play Sunday, Hillman would be placed in a position where he could bounce back in some fashion in Week 17, simply based on necessity.
