Eagles traded RB Ronnie Browns to the Lions in exchange for Jerome Harrison and an undisclosed 2013 draft pick. It's a good fit for both teams. Harrison played well as Shady McCoy's backup in Philly last season, and the Lions were desperate for a bigger back to pair with a brittle Jahvid Best. Brown will likely handle inside runs and short-yardage work once he gets up to speed in Scott Linehan's shot-gun heavy offense. He'll have more open spaces to operate in Detroit. We suspect Maurice Morris will remain the primary ball carrier for this week's game against the Falcons.

The Eagles are trying Ronnie Brown as a kick returner. Brown returned kicks sparingly during his early years with the Dolphins, so he at least has some experience. The more important point is that Brown isn't going to threaten LeSean McCoy for very much work at running back, so the Eagles want to get something out of him. Brown has predictably averaged just 3.1 yards on his 15 carries so far in the preseason.

Philly.com's Sheil Kapadia does not expect Ronnie Brown "to get more than a handful of touches/snaps." As long as LeSean McCoy is healthy, Brown will be a strict reserve. Last year's backup, Jerome Harrison, played seven snaps or fewer in 14 of the Eagles' 16 games. Brown, now 30, is merely a handcuff and there's no need to downgrade McCoy.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi confirms the Rams are the team "most interested" in and "doing the most homework on" free agent Ronnie Brown. The Rams are also interested in Jason Snelling, which would "eliminate" Brown, according to Lombardi. The idea is to find a nickel tailback who can "complement" Steven Jackson while also functioning as the "Kevin Faulk of Josh McDaniels' offense." S-Jax's receiving numbers could take a hit this year.

The Rams are in discussions with free agent Ronnie Brown about a potential signing. Josh McDaniels knows Brown well from their days together in the AFC East. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch "believes" the Rams have also made contact with Joseph Addai and Jason Snelling. Brown is declining at age 29, but he excels on passing downs. The Rams need to sign two tailbacks when all's said and done.

The Dolphins are reportedly re-considering free agent Ronnie Brown now that DeAngelo Williams is off the market. Other reports have the Dolphins pursuing Ahmad Bradshaw and Marion Barber, so Brown's return is far from a sure thing. It sounds like GM Jeff Ireland is covering his bases in case he loses out on his top choices.

Free agent Ronnie Brown acknowledges that it's "unlikely" he'll re-sign with the Dolphins. Miami hasn't ruled Brown out as a backup plan, but they would have to be turned down by multiple backs first. The Dolphins are reportedly "optimistic" that they will land one player from the group of DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Darren Sproles, and Reggie Bush. Their next group includes Willis McGahee, Marion Barber, Jason Snelling, and Joseph Addai.

Free agent Ronnie Brown is looking to sign with a team that will allow him to "go get a championship." Brown prefers to go to a warm-weather city, and he believes he can "still carry the load." Brown's priorities would seem to rule out the Broncos and Redskins. The Colts and perhaps the Bucs best fit his checklist among teams with a running back need. He may have to see where DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Cedric Benson, and Joseph Addai land first.

Beat writer Omar Kelly believes there's a 7 percent change free agent Ronnie Brown is back with the Dolphins. Kelly says the "regime is ready to move on." After drafting Daniel Thomas, the team is unlikely to give Brown starter's money. They'll likely try to add a speedier back in free agency to complement Thomas. Brown averaged an anemic 3.7 yards per carry last year and will be 30 in December.
