Cardinals waived OLB O'Brien Schofield. Schofield, a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2010, never seemed to be in the plans of the new Arizona regime. Frankly, he hasn't been that good in his three seasons, either. A nine-game starter last season before a season-ending ankle injury, Schofield registered just four sacks and has just 10.5 in his career. The Cardinals' signing of John Abraham was the final nail in the coffin.

The Cardinals' official website made no mention of OLB O'Brien Schofield when dissecting the team's pass rush. Beat writer Darren Urban talked briefly about Sam Acho, Matt Shaughnessy, and Lorenzo Alexander, as well as rookie Alex Okafor, but Schofield's name was nowhere to be seen. It's expected that Alexander will start opposite Acho, and it appears Schofield has fallen behind the other two. Schofield carries a $1.323 million salary and may be on the outside looking in.

The Cardinals' website anticipates OLB O'Brien Schofield losing his starting job to Lorenzo Alexander. Alexander is a career special teamer, but the Cards are giving him a chance to earn a big role on defense. A major 2012 disappointment, Schofield managed four sacks across nine starts and underwent year-ending ankle surgery in November. Pro Football Focus graded him negatively as both a pass rusher and run defender.

Cardinals OLB O'Brien Schofield's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $1.323 million based on rookie-deal incentives. Schofield started nine games in 2012 and recorded four sacks before he was lost for the season with torn ligaments in his ankle. Schofield and fellow OLB Sam Acho have underwhelmed over the last couple seasons, and their future roles remain unclear with Todd Bowles now in the fold as defensive coordinator.

Cardinals OLB O'Brien Schoefield will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his ankle. Coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed that he's out for the season. Schoefield will be placed on injured reserve with one more season left on his rookie contract. He will return as the bookend starter opposite Sam Acho next season while Quentin Groves fills in for the final two months.

Cardinals OLB O'Brien Schofield (ankle) is out for the remainder of the season. Schofield was injured in Sunday's loss to the Packers. He received an MRI on Monday and that likely revealed a fracture. Schofield tweeted the news that he's "done for the season." The 25-year-old recorded 34 tackles and four sacks in his first season as a starter. Quentin Groves will likely take over as the left outside linebacker.

Cardinals OLB O'Brien Schofield is undergoing an MRI on his ankle. That, of course, suggests Schofield could be dealing with a high-ankle sprain, but official word may not come until Tuesday or Wednesday. A full-time starter for the first time in his career, Schofield has four sacks in nine games, but has graded out as one Pro Football Focus' poorer 3-4 outside linebackers.

Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is really impressed with OLB O'Brien Schofield's mental progress this offseason. Schofield struggled to pick up the defensive system last season. "This year, he's been probably my best player as far as mentally, which shows you the growth you can make if you apply yourself. And he's been phenomenal for us," said Horton. He's worth a roster stash in deep big-play IDP leagues.

O'Brien Schofield will be the Cardinals' starting left outside linebacker, with Sam Acho entrenched on the right side. Schofield is replacing Clark Haggans and should be a pass-rushing upgrade, bringing superior edge-bending ability and speed rushing off the edge. Schofield racked up 4.5 sacks off the bench in 2011, and believes he will hit double digits as a full-time player. He will be worth a look in big-play IDP leagues.

Cardinals OLB O'Brien Schofield underwent surgery on both shoulders early in the offseason. Schofield had the labrum and rotator cuff in his left shoulder repaired and a routine cleanup on his right shoulder. Running as a first-time starter at left outside linebacker, Schofield is now healthy and participating in OTAs. The 2010 fourth-rounder played all 16 games last season after recovering from ACL surgery during his senior season.
