Giants re-signed DT Mike Patterson. Patterson turns 31 before the season, but remains an effective situational run stopper with some disruptive flashes. He had 23 tackles across 16 games last year, starting one. Patterson is a good bet to make the Giants' 53.

The Giants haven't ruled out re-signing free agent DT Mike Patterson. Patterson was a key rotational player and run stopper last season, appearing in all 16 games. The Giants currently lack depth on their defensive line, so he could be brought back on a one-year deal to provide veteran insurance.

Impending free agent DT Mike Patterson expressed a desire to re-sign with the Giants. "I waited a long time to get in this locker room," Patterson said. "Hopefully I'm back next season." Cut by the Eagles because he didn't fit their 3-4 scheme, Patterson was scooped up by the Giants last April. He was a key rotational player and an above-average run stopper. The G-Men are expected to show some interest in re-signing Patterson, likely on a one-year deal.

Giants agreed to terms with DT Mike Patterson, formerly of the Eagles. Along with Cullen Jenkins, Patterson is the second Eagles' defensive lineman to defect to the Giants this offseason. A full-time starter every year between 2006-11, Patterson was limited to just five games by illness last season. Provided he's healthy, Patterson should be a nice piece of depth for the Giants' already stout defensive line.

The Giants will host DT Mike Patterson for a free-agent visit on Tuesday. Patterson was reported in late February to be visiting the Lions, but it's unclear whether the meeting ever happened. Patterson will be at the same Giants visit that fellow free agents QB Pat White and RB Tim Hightower attend.

Free agent DT Mike Patterson will visit the Lions. It would be a good fit for a player very familiar with the "Wide 9," though the former six-year starter would have to be open to coming off the bench behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Illness limited Patterson to just five games in 2012.

Eagles released DT Mike Patterson. Patterson, 29, was owed a $2.9 million base salary. His release saves $3 million versus the cap. An undersized nose tackle who's spent his entire career in Philadelphia, Patterson was the 31st overall pick in the 2005 draft. At 6-foot-1, 300, he was a poor fit for the Eagles' new 3-4 scheme and will join Cullen Jenkins on the street. Philly is now wafer thin on the defensive line beyond Fletcher Cox and Antonio Dixon, but has ample cap space to work with. Expect the Birds to go hard after a defensive end and a nose tackle in free agency and/or the draft.

Eagles DT Mike Patterson (pneumonia, reserve/non-football illness list) will be paid his full salary. A standoff was brewing after the Eagles placed Patterson on the NFI list and decided to withhold some of his salary, but they've relented after 24 hours of bad publicity. Patterson was planning to file a grievance and argue he could have, in fact, contracted pneumonia playing football. The 29-year-old defensive tackle is signed through 2016, and due $2.9 million next season.

Eagles placed DT Mike Patterson (pneumonia) on the non-football injury/illness list, ending his season. The "non-football injury" designation allows the Eagles to dock Patterson's pay, which they will apparently do. According to Profootballtalk, the move is "expected to cause hard feelings" since Patterson quite possibly got sick practicing or playing in inclement weather. Just another day in the life of an NFL player. Patterson is signed through 2016, but his Eagles future is likely up in the air after he appeared in just five games this season.

Eagles DT Mike Patterson was hospitalized Thursday with viral pneumonia and remained in the hospital on Friday. The illness is not related to the arteriovenous malformation in Patterson's brain that affected him last season and required surgery. Team trainer Rick Burkholder said Patterson was "doing fine" and was stable while the team awaited test results. Patterson has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will not travel with the team.
