The Newark Star-Ledger "gets the sense" that the grand jury in Mike Goodson's gun/drugs case won't decide whether to pursue charges before September. That means Goodson could enter Week 1 without a suspension in hand, and likely put off any league-mandated punishment until 2014. ESPN New York considers Goodson's Jets status "up in the air," but most signs still point toward him reporting to camp as Chris Ivory's top backup.

ESPN New York reports RB Mike Goodson's future with the Jets remains "up in the air." Goodson is facing five charges after his May weapons and drugs arrest. His case is headed to a grand jury, but that process could take a few months. On the practice field, Goodson's explosiveness has reportedly been impressive. If he makes the team, expect him to be the change-of-pace to Chris Ivory.

USA Today reports the driver of the car in Mike Goodson's May gun/drugs arrest has claimed ownership of the gun. If true, it means Goodson is out of the woods on the most serious charges he's facing. He could still be staring down a league-mandated suspension on the drug charges, but Goodson's situation is looking much brighter than it did a few weeks ago.

Jets RB Mike Goodson is being sued for child support and health insurance for his children. He's being sued by a Houston woman demanding child support for four kids he fathered from 2005 to 2011. Although this won't affect him on the field or with the league office, Goodson is quickly becoming an unwanted distraction for a Jets team that already has it's share of issues.

Jets RB Mike Goodson returned to practice Tuesday following his arrest on weapons and drugs chargers last week. Goodson's lawyer says the Jets and the NFL "held" Goodson out of practice following the arrest, and added the legal process regarding his client's arrest could "drag on for months." Goodson pled not guilty to five charges last week, all related to guns and drugs.

Mike Goodson - who is facing felony gun and drug charges - will return to Jets practice next week. With Goodson claiming innocence on his gun charges - by far the most serious he's facing for last week's drunken arrest - the Jets will let the legal process play out before making a decision on his future with the team, as they should. Goodson is far from out of the woods, but the odds are increasing that he'll still be Chris Ivory's backup come Week 1.

According to the New Jersey State Police report, Mike Goodson was "incoherent, slobbering and had vomited all over himself as well as the interior of the vehicle" when he was arrested Friday morning. As previously reported, Goodson was so drunk he had to be hospitalized. According to the report, police found a "baggie of marijuana in Goodson's pants pocket." The loaded gun was found elsewhere in the car. Goodson's attorney has insisted he'll be cleared of the gun charges. "We firmly believe the gun charge is not going to last against Mike." The gun allegations are far more serious than the drug charges.

Mike Goodson will plead not guilty to both his gun and drug charges. Goodson's attorney claims he had "no knowledge" of guns or drugs being in an acquaintance's car when it was pulled over last Friday morning. "Mike's charged with possession of that gun, but we're confident we're going to be able to show (the gun wasn't his)," Goodson's attorney said. Goodson will be facing jail time if convicted.

Mike Goodson reported to Jets OTAs on Monday, but didn't practice. The Jets are going to want Goodson to lay low until they make a decision on his future. ESPN New York considers Goodson's roster spot a "major question mark" following his Friday arrest on gun and drug charges.

ESPN New York considers Mike Goodson's future with the Jets a "major question mark." Goodson's Friday arrest on weapons and marijuana charges would have any player on the hot seat - not just a reserve running back - but reporter Rich Cimini believes he could have time on his side. The Jets still owe Goodson nearly half of his $1 million signing bonus, and it would reportedly be "harder to recoup the money" if he was cut before the legal process plays out. The legal process will likely take months in this instance. For now Goodson remains Chris Ivory's backup, but it's written in pencil.
